About me

Hello- My name is Susan. I am licensed in Michigan with over 25 years of professional experience. I have worked as a mental health therapist in both clinical and in-home settings, mainly with adults and older adults. I'm also an experienced grief therapist, having worked in hospice.
My specialties include mood disorders (depression, anxiety and worry), grief and loss, coping with major life changes, motivation, goal setting, and overcoming shyness and improving self-esteem.
I'm also experienced in counseling people who are choosing or changing career paths, struggling with relationship issues, and addictions.
My Clinical approach utilizes a variety of techniques including Solution-Focused Therapy (just what it sounds like), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (Changing thoughts and beliefs to change behavior), and Family Systems Therapy (families are inter-connected therefore what happens to one affects others). Most importantly, I practice active listening skills. This involves having a genuine interest in You! I'll be listening carefully to what you have to say, reflecting back what I'm hearing from you, asking pertinent questions, and making suggestions based on insight and many years of experience. I value the relationship I have with my clients. I take my time in building trust and mutual respect, and I follow your lead. After all, this is your journey- not mine!

It's never too late to start living your best life! I respect and admire your courage in taking this huge first step of choosing a counselor. If you're ready to begin, I am here to support and empower you.
I look forward to working with you!

I’ve been working with Susan for a while now, and I can’t say enough good things about her. She’s incredibly compassionate, patient, and truly listens. She’s helped me manage my anxiety in ways I never thought possible, offering both practical tools and genuine support. I always feel heard and understood in our sessions, and I leave feeling lighter and more grounded. If you’re looking for someone who really cares and knows how to help, I highly recommend her.

Susan is a wonderful therapist who actively listens, contributes meaningful insights, and offers both relevant knowledge about her expertise in psychology/social work as well as emotional support and encouragement on the long, difficult journey of healing that often feels impossible, particularly in helping with trauma, anxiety, and depression. I am immensely grateful to have Susan as my therapist on BetterHelp.
