About Me

You have come to this website because you are seeking a way to answer some questions or resolve some kind of dilemma. My role is as a kind of "coach" to help you discover the strengths and skills you already have and to develop new ones that will help you find the answers to your questions or the resolution of your dilemma. My name is (Ms.) Toby F. Mailman. I am a New York State licensed Clinical Social Worker. I completed my degree at New York University and have been in practice with individual adults since 2001. I have worked with a diversity of clients, including diverse ethnicities, cultures, and sexual orientations. I have experience taking into consideration the norms of different cultures and the role they may play in psychotherapy.

My approach to psychotherapy is to establish a relationship with a client in order to foster trust, as I believe that trust is one of the most important factors for therapy to be helpful to the client. I use different kinds of modalities, depending on what I believe would be most effective for the client. Sometimes different kinds of modalities may be useful for the same person. The modalities that I have been using include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Body Work, Mindfulness and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
I believe that therapy is most effective when there are regularly scheduled weekly or bi-weekly sessions. Out of respect for each other, I would advise anyone as far in advance as possible if I need to reschedule an appointment and would fully expect that the subscriber who is seeking services with me would do the same. It is always best practice to consult with me before scheduling a different appointment, since some times may already be taken by a regular weekly client, even if they look "open" on schedules that are weeks ahead.
