About Me

Navigating life's complexities can be overwhelming and challenging. Sometimes, we get stuck. I am here to empower, educate, and support you as you discover your authentic self and make healthy, lasting changes. As your counselor, I see part of my role like a mirror, reflecting back so that you may see yourself more clearly, uncover your truth, and get unstuck. I am also here to hold hope for you as I believe there is hope for all people in all situations.

My counseling style is focused on warmth, empathy, and non-judgment. I aim to provide a safe space so that clients can express themselves freely and feel heard, understood, and validated. I approach each client as a unique individual who has the ability to create change. My approach is mostly person-centered with frequent incorporation of CBT, DBT skills, Gestalt, solution-focused, and motivational interviewing techniques. I also find it very effective to help clients see their struggles as stories and empower them to rewrite the stories of their lives. I find multicultural competency essential to my work and encourage clients to discuss any cultural issues openly. Additionally, I help clients understand how their mental health is directly impacted by physical health and encourage lifestyles that promote holistic well-being.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. My experience includes working with individuals with the following concerns: anxiety, depression, stress management, communication issues, self-worth and self-esteem issues, addiction, relationship issues, stage of life transitions, symptom management, and more. Most of my work has been in the inpatient psychiatric and partial hospitalization settings.

I look forward to collaborating with you on your goals to make the best changes for you.

Alyssa is one of the most understanding and compassionate counselors I've ever had the pleasure of working with. She hears my concerns, validates my vulnerabilities, and provides constructive advice (and criticism when necessary!) that has allowed me to enrich my life. My relationships are stronger, I enjoy my work more, and feel overall happier, healthier, and more productive. Thank you!

I haven’t been with Alyssa long but in this short time with her she has provided valuable insight. She is so responsive and you can tell she genuinely cares.

Alyssa has been a great support on my journey to learning better coping skills. She provides helpful feedback as well as poses critical thinking questions that enhances the effectiveness of the counsel she provides. I would recommend her to anyone needing a friendly, personable counselor to bounce ideas off of and help to direct the counseling session towards beneficial solutions.

Alyssa has been nothing short of amazing. I feel very comfortable being vulnerable with her and opening up about my issues with her. She’s given me amazing feedback and counseling. She’s an active listener and I truly appreciate having her as my counselor!

I have really enjoyed working with Alyssa! I've only had a couple sessions, but I already find that so much that we have discussed has already been helping me at my job and in my relationships! I look forward to continuing to work with Alyssa, and becoming the best version of myself :)
