About Me

I’m an LICSW (licensed independent clinical social worker) with 14 years of experience providing therapeutic services to children, teens, adults and families. I started my career as a teacher in an underserved community in a large urban school district, where I quickly learned that my passion lay in the relationships with my students and their families. Since receiving my Masters in Social Work, I have worked in a variety of settings, including a community health center, a teen shelter, as well as the school system.

My initial training was in Family Systems therapy, which imparted upon me the belief that no person is an island, and all of our triumphs and challenges are deeply entwined in our relationships with others and the dynamics that have developed. I am inspired by Solution Focused therapy, as I find that it most clearly helps clients articulate what is working and what a path out of their current struggle would entail. Cognitive behavioral therapy can be life changing, with its focus on recognizing and challenging cognitive distortions. Finally, during my post-masters training I learned about the brain and the foundational role that our amygdala and pre-frontal cortex play in emotional control. While insight and skill acquisition are important, I also feel that acquiring psychoeducation about the brain can be equally profound. At its essence, though, therapy is about being seen and heard. I invite you to provide yourself this opportunity and to see how life changing it can be to be truly seen and heard by a caring mental health professional.
