No matter how great your suffering is, I welcome the opportunity to be with you, listen, and support you in bringing about the change you seek. I believe that change is always possible, even when we feel stuck; sometimes those are the times we can bring about the most profound changes! Mindfulness and compassion will be central in our work together, to help bring about the change you are looking for. Originally from the UK, I then spent 5 years as a monk in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, before settling in beautiful Washington State, where I have been practicing as a licensed mental health counselor since 2013. I look forward to you contacting me so that we can begin therapy together.
After completing undergraduate studies in psychology in the UK, I traveled overseas, living and working in 12 countries across 4 continents. I then completed my masters in counseling psychology here in the US, and am ABD (all but dissertation) in general psychology. I have enjoyed working in community mental health since 1997, have been providing therapy since 2008, and have spent the past 3 and 1/2 years as the clinical director of a busy community behavioral health agency.
I have helped clients who have been experiencing depression, anxiety, chronic pain, life stressors, conflict, problems with impulse control, relationship problems, problems with self-esteem, trauma, and hearing voices. I tend to work most with therapeutic approaches that include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), solution focused therapy, and motivational interviewing. After 20 years of experience practicing meditation, I also enjoy integrating evidence-based contemplative approaches into my therapeutic work.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my profile. It is always a joy and honor to have the opportunity to work with a new client, and if you think we might be a good fit, I look forward to hearing from you.

I’ve been working with Barnaby for the better part of a year. I always look forward to his insight and perspective. He’s calming, non-judgmental, practical, and effective in his counseling methods.
I appreciate the time and insight Barnaby has given.
Barnaby has been such a great counselor for me. He recognizes my issues and offers many ways to approach those issues. He recognizes the progress I am making and is willing to push me when I need it. He is very flexible in his schedule. I have recommended Betterhelp, and Barnaby specifically, to others.
If you haven't really managed to talk to someone about difficult things before, you might find yourself opening up surprisingly easily to Barnaby.
He has been a great help. He helps me see things from a different perspective. I greatly appreciate everything he has helped me with.
Barnaby supported me strongly during a very difficult time. Thanks to his wise advice, I am able to get over a hard time and become confident and positive. He is patient, professional, and always aware of the most important need for me. He led me in the right direction. Although we are in different time zones, he always responses in time, so that we were able to communicate effectively. Not only my issue has gotten better, he also helped me to regain my perspective, my confidence. I have learned a lot from the counseling. It was a pleasant experience to work with Barnaby. I would recommend Barnaby to anyone who needs support and guidance in a difficult time.
Barnaby is really helpfully and understands my needs.
Barnaby is an amazing and helpful source to improve your situation. He has been an excellent resource for helping me improve. A very wise and knowledgeable human with great compassion and experience. He was always there to help even in times that we did not set up. Thank you Barnaby.
When I started with my sessions, I was completely lost and had no hope to get over the issue. Barnaby has been a great counselor who took time to understand what I feel, why I feel the way I do, and what alternatives I have ahead of me. Thank you so very much Barnaby. :)
Very kind and knowledgeable. Always makes time for me.
Barnaby was the third counselor I had been matched with, and it the the most beneficial time I had gotten out of BetterHelp. He was very nice and flexible when scheduling times to chat on the phone. I was not expecting to do any live phone calls with anyone on this app, but I’m very glad i had given it a try. Barnaby was very nice and helpful, and showed me a lot of different ways of thinking that I hadn’t thought of before. I would recommend him to anyone who needs someone to talk to.
Barnaby is understanding and helpful.
Very helpful, professional, and provides a variety of ways to meet.
So far, so good!
Barnaby is very pleasant and professional.
