Hello! My name is Benjamin Bess. I have been practicing as a therapist in Kentucky for over 4 years now, and I have worked in the mental health field for over 8 years. I consider it an honor when individuals share with me moments of their lives and experience, and permit me to guide them through difficult chapters along their journey. I admire your courage in coming to ask me for help.
I obtained my Masters in Social Work from the University of Kentucky and am now licensed to practice privately. The majority of my experience comes from work with individuals struggling with addiction, stuck in the mire of depression, and with those who feel imprisoned in the cycles of anxiety and panic attacks. In my opinion, these diagnoses are man-made labels, and every individual's experience of these labels differs in unique and complex ways. At the same time, we are all human beings and are guaranteed to encounter chapters of our lives that are difficult to navigate. I am here to help you traverse the rough terrain of your life and to help you see your way through the storms as the seasons continue to change. Know this, while your struggles are unique, you are also not alone in your sufferings.
In my approach, I strive to cultivate a therapeutic relationship where each individual can feel understood and free of the fear of criticism. Each individual is unique, and our work together will be focused on your individual values and goals. I will not take you somewhere you are not yet willing to go. The approach I have used most often to guide my clients is that of Cognitive Therapy. I have also used techniques from the Mindfulness approach and from Motivational Interviewing. In the largest part, my approach is insight-based. In other words, I work to help guide individuals back to the truth, and away from the lies we so often believe about ourselves and the world. Ultimately, my goal is to help you adapt more easily to the ever-changing seasons of life and equip you to the point I work myself out of a job.
I look forward to working with you!

Benjamin Bess quickly helped determine my needs and came up with a plan of action to help me. He has a great sense of gently nudging you forward without making you feel pushed. He's wonderful!
Ben has been great. After my initial experience with the first counselor I had very low expectations but Ben has exceeded my expectations and is helping me learn about myself.
