Catherine Sechrist


About Me

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Therapy is big step in healing and takes a great deal of courage to enter into the process. I co-journey with my clients in their process of reaching their goals. I have a Master of Science Degree in Counseling from Loyola University Maryland and I am certified as a clinical trauma professional, sex offender treatment professional, compassion fatigue professional, anger management treatment professional as well as trained in Crisis Incident Response. I was recently officially certified as a DBT therapist.

I have had 6 years of experience in the counseling field. My experiences includes working in outpatient clinics, within a hospital setting associated with Johns Hopkins Medicine on the oncology and psychiatric units. I have been trained through the Linehan Institute in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and currently utilize a standard DBT model. I also have extensive training in the area of trauma including Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I utilize other treatment approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Brief-Solution-Focused Therapy, as well as a psychodynamic therapy. I treat trauma/abuse, depression, anxiety/phobias, self-harming behaviors, Borderline Personality Disorder, OCD, eating disorders, as well as provide coaching for adjustment to life issues. I recently completed training to provide EMDR.

I provide a comforting space to process life's difficulties. I value each person for who they are. It is my mission to help those I work with come out of the darkness into the light to ultimately fulfill their potential.

Catherine is a supportive and empathetic and completely non-judgmental. She seems to really take the time to read over my rants and take the time to reply. Especially when I get too tied up to write she takes the time to leave little reminders and check in with me to nudge me back on track with therapy. I would recommend her approach to anyone going through anxiety and depression like me.

I started counselling with Catherine a few weeks ago. I have found Catherine to be patient and attentive. She has been helpful and supportive during these weeks. I have been finding this helpful in working things through.

A weight has been lifted. I have avoided therapy for so long (cost and scheduling) and I was reluctant to start but after a deeply emotional and heart breaking separation I found BetterHelp.
