Dawn Etzel

About Me

Hi there. My name is Dawn and I am a Mental Health and Addictions Counselor licensed in Indiana with over 8 years of clinical experience. I hold a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology. I am also certified with the National Board of Certified Counselors. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, addiction problems, career challenges, and life transitions. I have also helped individuals with a history of trauma, including emotional and physical abuse.

I believe it is you, not I, that is the expert of your own life and I see my therapeutic role as that of a guide and companion in helping and supporting you discover for yourself the best path to reach your goals. I believe that the greatest healing tool in therapy is the therapeutic relationship; therefore, I spend a lot of time making sure clients feel safe and understood. I believe in letting clients set the agenda for therapy; however, I am happy to provide recommendations as well as teach skills when clients express a desire to learn. My approach combines client-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and solution-focused techniques as I help clients express and sort through their feelings, reframe their perspectives for the better, and develop strategies to reach happier, fuller lives.

If you are struggling with something, wondering if your life could be better, wishing someone would walk beside you and help you figure things out and feel better, I invite you to reach out. You don't have to feel alone anymore.

I look forward to working with you!

I have found that this type of counseling is so much more effective for me than a traditional in office appointment. My Counselor is able to check in with me every few days which is so helpful to create a trusting counselor patient relationship bc it makes me believe she truly cares as well as gives me a gentle nudge to remember to maintain my self care.

My Counselor also takes the time to educate herself on things outside her per-view that affect me so she can not only understand my situation better but can give me a better professional viewpoint. This helps me again to feel how much she cares as well as allow me to know that she is counseling me based on understanding and knowledge of my situation.

I have done more work towards my goals with Dawn than with any traditional in-office counseling sessions in a shorter period of time due to her wisdom combined with this method of counseling because it can be somewhat continuous. Between our video sessions I can write to her and she will respond back so I don’t have to spend half the video session getting her caught up; plus it is a form of journaling which I find very helpful to de-stress. This method is great for someone to look back at previous written conversations to reflect, to see growth or even set-backs which can be a productive way to heal or better your mind.

Dawn was great, I got what support I needed to get out of an addictive behavior.
