About me

I am a licensed mental health counselor and substance use disorder professional in the state of Washington with 30 years of experience working in various community clinics, treatment centers, hospitals and private practice. I am also a geriatric mental health specialist. I have worked with hundreds of people with a wide variety of concerns, including addiction/recovery, depression, anxiety, PTSD, stress management, family systems, codependency, self-esteem, relationships of all types, grief and loss, and issues related to abuse and trauma.
My intention with each client is to be warm, kind, respectful and a good listener. I endeavor to hear the unspoken heart-messages that are sometimes underneath the words. My counseling style is eclectic and I draw from many schools of therapy, always attempting to be fully present and meet each client where they are.
I look forward to meeting and working with you!

Diana Elstad is a marvelous therapist. She is genuinely interested in my welfare. I may start a session feeling miserable, but by the end of the session her understanding and compassion helps me feel better. I’ve never met a therapist with so much skill and psychological ability. I recommend her highly!

I have been seeing Ms. Diana for a year now. She’s great. She gives me resources outside of therapy and backs up everything she says with evidence (I.e. link to a website). She makes me feel important enough to do better.

Diana is just what I was hoping to find in a therapist: she is a real person, not just a facade like you get with some therapists. She gives me valuable perspective and is understanding too. She seems like a very intelligent person and I get the sensation she really cares. Also she is a good listener. She’s not hesitant to question my assumptions when she deems appropriate which is something else I was hoping for. She’s a good one!

Diana is a wonderful therapist! She is an incredible listener and offers the best support imaginable. I've been very impressed by the depth of her listening and how she expertly and gently suggests things we might discuss which I would not have thought of but which turn out to be hugely helpful. I feel very lucky to have found her!
