As a licensed professional counselor, I believe every individual has the power to make long-lasting change in their life. With a whole-person approach, my clinical work focuses on individual strengths as I work with each client to set personal goals, focusing on what is most relevant to you. I am a compassionate and supportive listener with a reality-based approach. As a registered Art Therapist, I bring creativity and out-of-the-box thinking to my sessions.
As a working therapist for over 15 years, I earned a M.A. from Marylhurst University in Portland, Oregon, in 2006, with my undergraduate degree in Art Therapy from Spring Hill College in Mobile Alabama. I am a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC #180.011106) in the State of Illinois.
My basic theoretical approach to therapy is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which looks at the relationship among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and how they connect to problems. I use a variety of techniques in therapy, as each client is unique. This flexibility helps me to find which technique will best match my individualized client. I am trained in Trauma-Focused CBT, Acceptance-Commitment Therapy, and Psychodynamic therapy.
My areas of specialized training and expertise include trauma, parenting issues, teens, anxiety, and depression. I also have experience working with eating disorders, codependency, substance abuse, grief and loss, as well as attachment disorders.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Julia Lopez. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Julia is very helpful and supportive. She listens and provides constructive feedback as I need. I appreciate all that she has done for me.
Julia is positive and supportive. I appreciate being able to guide sessions as I need.
From day one, Julia was empathetic, clearly very knowledgeable and a great listener. That said , she was not afraid to be candid and to share her insights while asking sometimes difficult questions. I couldn’t believe how quickly she seemed to understand me and why I was reaching out . She even immediately had ideas for moving forward. Outstanding!
I’ve worked with Julia over the past 7 months — she has been wonderful, thoughtful and effective. I came to her with general feelings of uncertainty and anxiety and she made me feel completely comfortable with sharing about my life. Julia has provided me with insightful guidance and has helped me build a stronger foundation, allowing me to have confidence in myself, the decisions I make and boundaries I set, in all aspects of my life. Julia and I have both acknowledged the growth I’ve made and I truly could not thank her enough for partnering with and supporting me through a time of constant (and positive) change!
So far, I have resonated with Julia whole heartedly and genuinely look forward to the times we speak and to hear what guidance she has to offer. Even in the short time I've had her as a therapist, I feel myself growing through developing legitimate boundaries and caring for myself through self love. I really appreciate our time and will continue to look forward to all future calls
Julia is amazing. She is kind-hearted and empathetic. She is well adversed in her field and I could not have matched myself with a better therapist.
After many messages back and forth I had my first video session with Julia. This was a great experience. Julia made me feel comfortable and was very understanding. I look forward to many more sessions.
Julia is always upfront and honest about what she can do which is very helpful. She is a great listener and validates everything I am going through. I am grateful to have her good attitude and helpful explanations of things!
I have only been working with Julia for a couple weeks, but I already see the results of her work. She's provided me a couple strategies for helping to manage my anxiety when it is high, and they have been effective. I would highly recommend her to anyone in need of help.
Julia is amazing. She is patient and kind and most of all, she is helping me find the strength to question my long held unhealthy beliefs about myself and others. I would recommend Julie to anyone and everyone.
Julia has made an immense impact on my life. I am so grateful that I was matched with her. She listens to me, gives me the cues I need to think about my struggles and challenges me with self-reflective questions. I can’t thank her enough.
I was very nervous about doing virtual therapy, but was matched with the perfect therapist for me. Julia is very open minded, listens, and never makes me feel like she is judging me. I am comfortable with her only after a few sessions and really feels like she understands me and my issues.
