About Me

Welcome. You are seeking change. You know you want something different or something more, but you have not yet found ways to make change happen on your own. Perhaps you feel uncomfortable seeking help because, in our culture, many of us are taught to be tough and figure things out on our own. Being strong and independent will always be an asset, but those same qualities can help you learn, grow, and change even more within a healthy counseling relationship. I have served many people in my 40 years as a mental health counselor and life coach. I have helped people with stress, confusion, anxiety, depression, grief, fear, trauma, abuse, loss, major life transitions, and feeling really stuck. Working through these issues with my clients has taught me the importance of compassion, respect, and empathy. I hold the belief that change is possible when a person finds a safe and comfortable environment in which to identify, clarify, understand, and manage the challenges and issues they face in order to find emotional healing.

I am a compassionate, authentic, non-judgmental listener. My approach to counseling is to help people identify and foster their strengths, explore strategies and skills to manage emotions and stress, communicate more effectively, problem-solve, and develop self-awareness, self-determination, self-expression, and self-esteem on their way to gaining a sense of direction and control. My therapeutic approach is eclectic, but is based on Cognitive Behavioral, Rational Emotive, and Behavioral Modification therapies to foster understanding of the relationships between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I also employ the concepts of Emotional Intelligence, Positive Psychology, energy medicine, and healthy lifestyle choices. I respect the importance of working toward balance of the person as a whole, mind, body, and spirit. I will hold a safe place for you to discover and develop your own wisdom and understanding.

My clients are mostly adults, both individuals, couples, and families, but I also work with adolescents over 15 and seniors. I am proud to serve military families and Vets, as well. The issues most often presented are relationships, parenting, communication, stress management, anger, addictions, eating disorders, and life transitions, including marriage, divorce, unplanned pregnancy, adoption, and blended families.

My name is Kathi Turner. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Texas and certified by the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW). I have been a counselor for over 40 years, in private practice for the last 15 years, and a Certified Mentor Coach (2009) with a focus on life transitions.

I just began this online counseling process and had a few experiences with counseling as a youth. I’ve found online counseling to be much more compatible with my lifestyle and more effective than past experiences. Kathi meets me on my level and focuses on actions I can take to meet my goals. She asks reflective questions that help me shift my perspective. I find the combination of messaging and live options to be effective to keep me on task, and Kathi has been flexible and responsive.

Kathi Turner asks the best questions of any counselor I've experienced. She reads my messages and she challenges me in a great way to look for patterns in my behavior and for opportunities for personal growth. I always feel respected and I always feel that Kathi wants to help me meet my goals by helping me see what obstacles I've created for myself and then to remove them.
