Hello and Welcome! My name is Kathleen Monroe and I possess a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago and am licensed in Clinical Social Work in the state of Illinois. In addition; I hold a Certification as an Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Counselor. I have been working in a counseling field since 2014. Clients that I have worked with struggled in areas of mental health and substance abuse ranging in diagnosis’s of Anxiety, Depression, Self-esteem and feelings of self-worth concerns, Post-traumatic stress disorder, Addiction related disorders, Learning disabilities, behavioral spectrum disorders, Autism, Adjustment disorders, and Psychotic disorders.
During my time within this field, I have experience working within a variety of settings providing me with sensitivity towards various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic groups of ages ranging from children, teens, adults, families and couples. I am an eclectic therapist, meaning that not everyone is the same and I adapt my treatment techniques based off of my client’s goals and needs. My approach many times combines client-centered, narrative, behavioral, humanistic, and existential theories using evidence based techniques drawn from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) and solution-focused therapy. Every individual has the power to change and I would like to be that link towards helping them gain strengths back in their lives. I take a direct strengths based approach while helping my clients feel comfortable to personalize how they would like to address their concerns and set their own pace for meeting their treatment goals.
Life can be difficult and taking the first step of reaching out for help shows great strength and courage. I am here to assist with guiding you through this difficult time in a judge free and confidential manner.

Kathleen has been wonderful since I started working with her! She uses great tools to help me evaluate my behaviors and values, and is always attentive. She's easy to talk to and I'm so glad to have found her!
Kathleen has been very understanding and helpful during a difficult time.
So far, she has been very helpful! I find the advice she gives is great. She responds in a timely manner. She is easy to talk to, which is comforting to me.
Kathleen has been a great help to me so far. She provides me with useful tools to turn around toxic habits I've developed and help me out when I'm having anxiety, and she never makes me feel judged or wrong for any of the things I share with her.
From day one of working with Kathleen, she has made me feel heard and understood. I am so grateful for the help she is giving me in bettering myself.
Kathleen is a great source of support. When I went through a particularly rough ordeal she set some extra time aside to respond to me and take my phone call. She continues to help me make important strides and never makes me feel guilty if I go through down periods in my mental health. She's really been so helpful and is one of the reasons why I recommend better help to friends when they're looking for flexible/affordable therapy.
Kathleen is fantastic at her job. She really makes sure you know that you’re not alone and that she cares.
Kathleen has been a pleasure to work with during the month I have known her. She is very good at keeping up with messages, video sessions, and encouraging me with goals. Most importantly she provides a positive and non-judgemental place, where one can talk openly and she listens to what you have to say. She tremendously helped me in lowering my anxiety. Also, she is very resourceful. She has a lot of articles on anxiety. I highly recommend her to anyone who is struggling with a generalized anxiety disorder and OCD. I plan on working with you in the future!
It’s been two months that I’ve worked with Kathleen. I think the care she is teaching me to have for myself is helping me reach the potential I always knew I had. I’m doing the best I’ve ever been in my life and it’s because I’m working on myself in the right way.
It took me 7 years to finally build up the courage to talk with someone. I’ve always felt ashamed and overwhelmed, but talking with Kathleen is comforting.
