Koyt Kifer

About Me

I grew up outside of Dallas, TX and received my undergraduate degree from Ole Miss University with a bachelors’ degree in Art with an emphasis in oil painting. I spent the next decade living and working in various mountainous towns around the United States as a PSIA certified snow ski instructor during the winters and working with horses during the summers as a trail guide, director of several youth camp equine programs, and a farrier. I'm certified as an equine therapy horse specialist and mental health professional through EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) and worked on an equine therapy team while earning a masters’ degree from Hardin Simmons University in Counseling and Human Development. I rescued a dog that I utilize in the therapy process during appropriate in person sessions. His name is “HEY”.

I have experience working with veterans, adults, and the LGBT community. Throughout my counseling career I have worked with the previously mentioned demographics struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, self-harm, post-traumatic stress disorder, relationship issues, personality disorders, trauma, grief, and substance abuse. I utilize a wide range of therapy modalities and believe that the therapeutic process is organic and needs to be flexible. I believe in a Humanistic approach that emphasizes human uniqueness, positive qualities, and individual potential. I incorporate Logotherapy principles, if appropriate, that are based on the premise that the human person is motivated by a “will to meaning,” an inner pull to find their purpose in life. Life has meaning and purpose under all circumstances.

I look forward to working along your side,
