About Me

Hello! I am a licensed professional counselor and a master’s level addiction counselor. I have been in the field of behavioral health and addiction for over 10 years and am also a board approved supervisor. I have worked as a Clinical Director in several different facilities and have been in private practice as well. I am a SMART Recovery Certified Facilitator and usually incorporate cognitive behavioral techniques of this program into the course of counseling. I believe in the core power of choice, allowing clients engaged in services to identify which course of treatment is the most effective for them personally, not withstanding professional feedback. Currently, I am also studying at Walden University in an APA accredited program in health psychology with a specific focus on post-bariatric operation and alcohol abuse. I am an REBT therapist which means that we will spend a significant amount of time in examining the way you think about the world and how your belief systems impact the way you feel and ultimately result in your behavior. Maintaining focus on your thoughts prevents you from developing irrational thinking that creates anxiety, guilt, stress, and worry. This is a great way to stay on top of controlling your feelings while limiting the development of cognitive distortions that contribute to irrational thinking.

I am a "homework" person and I am a big believer in keeping your mind active in between sessions and as such, I often assign worksheets to help keep you motivated and help you organize your thoughts prior to your session. I also frequently assign goals so that you can visually see how much effort you have put into your behavioral health-everyone needs to be reminded of how hard they have worked on days when they feel down. I can't wait to help you on your journey!

"Men are not disturbed by things, but the views which they take of things."

Written by A.M. on Jul 31, 2020 after counseling with Kristi for 1 month on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, eating disorders, self esteem, bipolar disorder, coaching, and adhd

I have only had a few session with Kristi, but for the first time I have felt immediate comfort, support, and connection with a counselor. Kristi is a wonderful listener; she is able to pull from my words to help me identify and challenge my underlying thoughts and feelings in a respectful and educational way. I always leave sessions with "homework" that helps me continue to challenge and analyze my thoughts between sessions, which works really well for me. She is timely in her messaging responses throughout the week as well on the rare occasion that I need to make contact.
