About me

Dr. Lauren D. Pitts is a passionate and dedicated Relationship Expert, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Trauma-Focused Trainer and Sports Mental Health Empowerment Coach providing therapeutic services to individuals including scholar-athletes, professional athletes, couples, families, and groups; Dr. Pitts provides a Solution-Focused approach to treatment while demonstrating clinical excellence via systemic, strength-based and holistic strategies. Dr. Pitts’ approach underpins her coordination of services related to mental and behavioral health, medical and financial needs, education, employment, housing, professional development, and consultation.

With intimate connections to scholar-athletes her entire life, it was in high school that she became intrigued by the toll competitive play took on the mental health of scholar and professional athletes. Athletes’ mental health was further compromised by unhealthy environmental conditions that often led to engagement in unhealthy and risky behaviors. Additionally, it quickly became apparent that the challenges athletes faced, also impacted their families and communities.

Dr. Pitts is particularly passionate about being an integral part of a healing and hope trajectory for ethnic minorities. One size does not fit all and contributing to the holistic wellbeing of individuals and their families requires an understanding of different experiences. A native of Salem, New Jersey – Dr. Pitts is a firsthand witness of the multi-generational, systemic loss and devastation caused to families because of domestic violence, mental illness, substance abuse, gun violence, poverty, and the overall breakdown of the nuclear family. Dr. Pitts' tumultuous life serves as a compass guiding her to turn the adversities of her life into steppingstones for others.

Dr. Pitts serves the U.S. Department of State – Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Institute of International Education as a Fulbright Alumni Ambassador and is on the Fulbright Specialist Roster for the U.S. Department of State and the World Learning Center. Serving as a Fulbright Specialist strategically positions Dr. Pitts to be a benefactor to host institutions around the world and a greater asset in every facet of her work via cultural exchange and mutual understanding using an interdisciplinary, multi-specialist, biopsychosocial approach concerning trauma-informed care. Additionally, becoming a Fulbright Specialist provides access to opportunities for Dr. Pitts to contribute to the preparation of systemically trained, culturally competent, socially just clinicians.

Dr. Pitts earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Management and a master’s degree in Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy each from Drexel University. She earned a bachelor's in Organizational Management from HBCU Edward Waters College and an associate degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management from Johnson & Wales University. Dr. Pitts has received numerous awards and recognition for her work in the areas of clinical excellence, empowerment, education, community activism, social justice, and equality. Dr. Pitts is the host of "HOUSE TALK Pregame" where the show’s focus is on having hard conversations on topics that are relevant to black and brown communities globally including HBCU families, scholar, and professional athletes and their families, and the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) family. HT Pregame provides powerful, albeit raw life, sports, and mental health information that athletes and their families need to make well-informed athletic and life-transforming decisions!

Prior to starting therapy, my confidence was a bit shaky, I struggled with having an inherent sense of self worth, and multiple of my close relationships were riddled with confusion, misaligned expectations and quite a bit of hurt. By working with Dr. Pitts, I've developed a different perspective, gained an inherent sense of self worth, and grown closer to more consistently solid and positive person I know I can be! In particular, my relationship with my spouse has begun to feel more lighthearted again and is regaining a sense of sweetness, which is priceless.

I find Dr. Pitts very helpful in getting me to see the value of my own self worth. She has given me articles to read and things to work on outside our sessions. Dr. Pitts shares common experiences with me in a professional way so i understand I am not alone in thinking or feeling specific ways. I look forward to our sessions weekly and enjoy the Journaling (not expected or required). Overall, I feel that Dr. Pitts is helping me find the. "Real Authentic" me.
