About Me

My name is Lisa O'Bryan, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. I earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology at the University of Virginia. I continued on to earned a Masters of Education (MSEd) in Counseling and Psychotherapy at Old Dominion University. I currently own a private practice called Grace Covenant Counseling & Psychotherapy.

I believe in the potential of people to heal and have the life that they deserve. I work with individuals, couples, families, adolescents, and children with a variety of emotional and behavioral issues, providing services that span from therapy for depression and grief counseling to parenting support, couples and individual counseling. I believe in being in the moment with each client, providing a comfortable and safe therapeutic environment to promote personal growth. It is important to understand a person's social and family background and how those affect their daily life and functioning.

I strive to assist individuals in changing negative thoughts (cognitions) and behaviors to more positive alternatives. I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client's individual needs to help attain the growth they are striving for. I believe that everyone has a story to tell. Counseling helps you understand your past so that you can write your future. I strive to help all of my patients understand where they have been, what has worked and not worked for them, and choose their future path.

I look forward to working with you.

I really like Lisa. She responds in a timely manner & is able to understand my issues & verify them with me through reflective listening. She has helped me to challenge my negative thinking & she has given me coping skills to help when my anxiety is high. I definitely would recommend Lisa as a counselor.

I like talking to Lisa because she really takes the time to help me make sense of my thoughts and feelings. She also has some really productive ideas to help me cope with my anxieties. I wish I could keep her as my therapist on better help but we've moved to another state. But I'd definitely recommend her to anyone who needs a therapist in VA!!!

I really like Lisa! She gives great support to me and advice/feedback on my situation. She helps me think out the box a little and also gives that support and advice that I can’t get from close friends or family who have biased opinions of my situation.

I have been working with Lisa O'Bryan for one week now and this is the best experience I have ever had with a therapist. Lisa is absolutely fantastic and responsive when it means the most. Even checks in when she has not heard from me. I cannot say enough good things about the service and especially about this counselor in particular.

She cuts through the confusion to the source with such clarity and gives easy simple advice to follow that actually works. But also understands that sometimes you just need someone to talk to and you end up figuring it out all by yourself along the way.
