I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Alcohol/Drug Counselor, in California, with more than 7 years of experience providing direct mental health therapy and alcohol/drug counseling. I have worked with individuals ages five to adult with a variety of presenting issues, including mood disorders, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, alcoholism and drug addiction, as well as family conflicts and teenagers’ issues. I am aware of cultural factors and I am sensitive and respectful of people’s values.
I have experience in different settings, schools, agencies and private practice. I certainly believe in people’s inner strengths and capacity to succeed and grow even during difficult times. My therapeutic approach is mainly cognitive/behavioral with extended use of solution focused, humanistic, strategic and structural systems theories also.
I basically meet you where you are at, then we decide the style that fits your needs, as we are going to be working together to help you meet your goals. My purpose is to help you gain or regain the level of functioning that you desire.
Regarding my education, I got my bachelor’s degree in Psychology in Colombia as well as a specialization in chemical dependencies. Then, in USA I got my master’s in clinical psychology with specialty in marriage and family therapy. I also got my certification as alcohol and drug counselor in USA and I have worked with teenagers, young adults and adults in individual and group counseling addressing anger management issues, domestic violence, alcohol/drug use and DUI.
