I am an LCSW with my "R" number, licensed in the State of New York. I have over 16 years of experience working in both outpatient and psychiatric inpatient settings. I have extensive experience providing individual and group psychotherapy, with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. My two areas of expertise are, working with individuals with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder and Substance Abuse Disorder. I am also comfortable treating those that struggle with depression; anxiety, bipolar disorder; nicotine dependence, and chronic pain.
My counseling style is warm and accepting. I utilize a person centered approach allowing for self exploration of past and current struggles, and work on problem solving and growth. I focus on strength building and working on areas of a the individuals life that they value most. Change occurs when someone begins to recognize that what they have been or are currently doing may no longer be working for them. Cognitive Behavioral Therapies take a hands on and practical approach to problem solving. It explores the links between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT's main components are working on identifying core beliefs and automatic thoughts that may not be working for a person in a healthy way. I also will provide skills building techniques utilizing DBT Therapy to help when feeling overwhelmed and to work on having more healthy and balanced interactions with others.
The first step is recognizing that you may be struggling, once that occurs, the journey towards wellness can begin. If you are ready for change, I am here to help support you on your journey.
