I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor, ( NCC) with other 30 years experience in both counseling and education. I started my professional career as an elementary special education teacher in the early 80's. I obtained my M.Ed in counselor Education in 1989 from the University of Arkansas and in 1989 I went to Alaska for the first time as along term substitute teacher. I worked in the Bering Strait School District, in Unalakleet, Alaska. I would return a year later, and work a total of 11 years as a teacher, itinerant school counselor, and village school principal in the district. I would go on to work in two other school districts before retiring from Alaska in 2004. After returning to Arkansas, and home, I worked as a kindergarten counselor in a center with 180 kids and 18 teachers. I fully retired in 2007. In 2009, I became a military and family life counselor and have been doing this for 10 years. My treatment approach is based on my training and my personality. I was trained in CCT and it fite my style, even though I so specialize in crisis counseling. I have found helping the client, and not necessarily directing the client is more effective for me. As I stated I specialize in crisis and PTSD counseling right now with the military, and their families.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Raymond Butts. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Ray is a great listener and our sessions are conversational, so I feel at ease when I'm trying to figure myself out. I'd recommend Ray to anyone!
Ray is a really good man, has a big heart and I feel he genuinely cares for his clients, he has alot of varied experience and has dealt with people from all walks of life as he has also walked many of them himself. He's helpful and understanding, never judgmental and means only well. I am happy and will continue to let him route around in my head to help me find answers to my problems as I feel I'm in very capable hands ❤️
He is very friendly and down to earth but knows when I need really solid answers. He is very good at balancing the feeling of talking to a good friend (venting) and addressing bad thought patterns or habits.
The nicest guy you could ever talk to! really big help inspiring me to improve my quality of life. 5 Stars!
Ray is so nice!
Always listens, gives great advice and is always here for you. He really does care a lot, you can feel it. Knowing there is a person who is fully committed and here for you gives you reassurance and hope. Ray is not only a great therapist but a great man and a great human being.
Ray is a personable man that has a way of connecting with you right off that bat. Being a experienced man Ray has offered my wife and I great advise on how resolve issues. I’m a strong believer in the more people you work with the more tricks you pick up and Ray is definitely on the list of time we’ll spent.
Ray makes me feel comfortable opening up to him about what’s bothering me. I can reach out to him about little things or bigger things and he helps me work through anything I need.
Ray is what I would consider a people person. Very pleasant, friendly, humorous, empathetic and he listens.
We’re going on our 4th session, and even this early in the therapy, I really believe he’s going to make a difference in my life
Ray is a phenomenal therapist! I always feel better after talking to him, no matter what we talked about or how my mood was before. He is an amazing listener and has a great sense of knowing just how much to listen and how much to engage.
Speaking to Ray every week has become like speaking to a friend in a lot of ways, but a friend who has great advice and who looks out for me. I am really lonely in life and often don't have anyone to talk to about anything I am facing, and knowing that I can speak to Ray once a week really provides support and a point in the week where I can talk openly and honestly without fear of judgement. I'm grateful for Ray's relaxed and upbeat style where we can talk about anything from the weather or deep problems I'm facing. That means I don't find approaching sessions stressful, if I'm not in the mood for talking about deep emotional issues, we have a light hearted chat and that is great for my wellbeing.
He is very kind, understanding, and so easy to talk to!
After a couple unsuccessful matches with counsellors on here, I found Ray and I’m glad I had the opportunity to talk to him. He’s by far the best counsellor I’ve talked to. Really made me feel at ease despite everything I’m dealing with. Was very nice and compassionate in his approach. Really felt like talking to a friend I had known for years. He had the ability to break down the issue to a more sensible measure. I feel like things are more manageable now thanks to him.
Ray is very kind. Great at listening and providing helpful advice for moving forward in dealing with social anxiety and relational issues. I recommend speaking to him!
The time I spent working with Ray Butts was tremendous and I am in a better place now because of it.
Ray demonstrates sincere concern and is flexible in his approach and therefore able to meet me where I am at. Supportive and easy to talk to.
Ray has been a tremendous help. He listens well, asks the right questions and has a great wealth of expertise to draw from. In setting out practical, helpful steps I can take, Ray is great at couching them in examples and observations from his own work and life experiences - just chatting with Ray about these stories has been a great pleasure each week, and the practical advice and observations behind them have worked wonders.
Ray Butts is a lovely counselor with a deep well of life experience. Would recommend to all that are interested at exploring their relationship with validation!
Ray is a great guy with a lot of life experience, he helped me a lot
LOVE Dr.Ray. He’s really the best counselor I’ve had so far
After having one session with Ray I think that he is a good match for me and my problems I am facing. I really understood the examples he used and I feel as though he already understands me. I look forward to more therapy sessions with him!
Ray was very patient and a fantastic listener; He gives very good advice and has many interesting stories. He is easy to open up to and good at calming down someone who is overwhelmed. A very good person to talk to if you are new at counselling or have struggled to form that level of trust with counsellors before!
Ray Butts is a wonderful man and he has helped me tremendously to work through and figure out what my issues are and set me on a path to peace of mind. He is a great listener and his compassion and empathy is very comforting and makes it so much easier to be open with him. Thank you for all your help.
Very enthusiastic and relatable person he actually cares about his clients and is very supportive he does more than listen he contributes
Ray is a great councillor. I enjoy and appreciate how well he listens, asks questions beyond the surface level and gives advice. He always has my best interest in mind and challenges me to think beyond how I am feeling at the moment. I look forward to our sessions and I would recommend BetterHelp to anyone looking for a councillor.
My first time having to talk to a therapist and Mr.Ray is amazing!!
Ray is a genius! I struggled for a while to find a counselor that I felt understood me. It was on my third attempt that I found Ray. From the initial conversation I could tell he had deep expertise and experience. Ray listens and provides me with practical solutions and not the five steps as regurgitated from the latest version of ‘Mental Health Today’. His personality simply brightens my day. I highly recommend him!
Ray has been such a massive help to me since we started our sessions together. His lighthearted conversational style relaxes you and takes the pressure of any preconceptions about what counselling is or should be. I gain so much from each session and feel completely safe and supported in Ray’s company.
He truly is a beam of light that radiates positivity that is infectious and inspiring. I am so glad he is my counsellor and feel honoured to know him. Thank you Ray.
My time with him was very short but very effective which I didn’t think was possible. He helped me tremendously to move on forward with my life, he said things exactly what is needed for me and what has changed my life completely. I was so glad to have met him from my first therapy experience, made me feel very comfortable in opening up which I struggled alot with. Anyone would be lucky to have counseling with him.
Ray takes an unconventional approach to counselling by focusing on the relationship he has with you. For me, it’s perfect. He listens, he shares, and he offers. It’s more akin to speaking to a wise father or grandfather figure than it is the clinical style of therapist that many are useful.
Ray is warm, positive and almost like your personal cheerleader. He comes with a wealth of professional and personal life experience. I highly recommend him
Ray is very helpful and has a lot of knowledge on a lot of human aspects. Very personable and passionate about helping people. I thoroughly enjoyed our talk.
I have so enjoyed working with Ray. He is warm and thoughtful as well as reliable and responsive. He also has so much life experience and wisdom that he insightfully shares with grace and humor. Ray has been a great help to my life. Thank you, Ray!
Ray is great, I highly recommend him.
Ray is absolutely fantastic to talk to and has stories for every situation that are incredibly easy to relate to. I always leave the conversation in a better mood than when I started.
I went into a therapy session on a whim after a very abuse relationship which then led to me divulging into serious alcohol abuse. Ray helped me tremendously using tactics such as telling stories where he could relate, while being comforting and open. Since then I have had an epiphany to quit drinking and will now be on naltrexone. I’ve made connections with other addicted seeking help and have made better choices for my overall well-being. Thank you, Ray!
Mr Butts is an absolute legend. By the end of the month I was feeling so much more confident, and motivated, and less stressed. He's a great dude who delivers results with a friendly service.
He's a genuine man who listens first and it isn't hard talking to him.
Mr. Butts has been extremely caring about my situation, and does not hound me to journal. He makes kind remarks at looking forward with my situation and waits for me to reach out to him. I would recommend Mr. Butts as a thorough Counselor and someone who has given me a genuine psychological experience to help me work on how to control and work on my emotions.
Nice guy. Listens. Great advice. Relatable.
Ray Butts really listens to what you have to say and provides experiences that you can really relate too. I can't tell you how helpful this has been for me and I really appreciate him taking the time, even when I haven't messaged him he reaches out to check in and it means a lot.
Mr Butts has been an amazing support to me and I am so thankful that I was matched with him for counseling! Thank you!!
As a young man who has been trying to do things the "strong man" way, I was reluctant to even consider help.
Then my father began to wither in front of me, and I knew I was in trouble. There are some things that no one should attempt to do on their own. Ray, I hope you understand that you reaching out to me is something I can't thank you enough for.
Everytime I talk to Ray I feel better and look forward to our next session. He is very friendly upbeat.
I enjoy the use of stories to suggest strategies. I have work on reservations or around reservations most of my life and story tellers are revered teachers.
I have only had two full sessions with Ray but in those two sessions things are already starting to look up. He listens to me understands what I'm going through. Checks in and is there to listen.
I’ve only had a few sessions with Ray so far, but he has been the best therapist I have ever had the opportunity to talk with. He’s been helping me understand my thoughts, and actually understand why I think the way I do. Definitely like a breath of fresh air when I talk with him, and although sometimes I feel mentally drained after a session, it’s always been a better outlook and day when I finish my sessions.
