My name is Sam and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as well as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. I pride myself in an open and collaborative approach in my counseling style. I value your input and attempt to guide you toward your goals in an accepting and challenging manner. I lived and worked for almost a decade in Hawaii and was fortunate to work with clients of varied backgrounds. Throughout my time as a counselor, I have learned the importance of cultural and family roles in counseling and the value of allowing you to be the expert of your story.
I have worked in a variety of backgrounds including inpatient medical, where I worked with families experiencing end of life transition issues, chronic medical issues, including substance abuse, and acute life threatening situations. I have a passion for working with individuals and families through their grief to find comfort, or at least some peace of mind.
I have also worked for several years with families and children experiencing a variety of challenges including parenting conflicts resulting from rebellion, family tension, truancy, drug use, and other family stressors. I have worked for four years with families of children with neurodevelopmental and genetic disorders that struggle with stress about school issues, systemic breakdowns, and lack of community social support. I feel that being a support for parents in stressful situations is a reward in itself to see how the individual and family grow and change over time.
Thank you for taking time to read my information and I look forward to hearing your story and working with you toward your goals.
