I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with 25 years of experience. I hold a current LCSW license in Colorado and Arizona. During my career I have counseled a variety of clients in a variety of settings both in the US and Mexico. While I have experience in all areas of mental health, my most recent specialities are treating anxiety and stress, adults abused as children, the spectrum of mood disorders (depression and bi-polar), addiction, and chronic health issues. I have a collaborative, client centered approach. I offer a variety of interventions depending on your needs. My approach is focused on you, I take your lead but can nudge if I think it will be helpful. Clients tell me I am a mindful listener, compassionate, and engaging. I offer a flexible schedule with whatever mode of communication suits you best. In the first few sessions I always ask "how will you know counseling has been helpful?", "what will be different, what will you notice?". Then we can make goals from there. I respect you for asking for help. I will honor your time commitment and use our time efficiently and wisely. I look forward to working with you.

This is my first experience with counseling. Better late than never as I am over 60. It is a life changing experience and allowing me to better understand how to be in charge of my own life and not let circumstances get in the way of that. Susan Ackerman (LCSW) has listened thoughtfully to me every time we meet and offered pivotal information that I could draw from for my personal experiences. She is helping me to change my life in a way I didn’t know was possible. I would highly recommend her as a counselor.
Susan is absolutely fantastic.. She is a great listener with excellent insights. She's great at helping you realize your own strengths and needs. She is knowledgeable about a wide variety of presenting problems, but what I like even more is that she admits when there is a subject she's not as experienced in and helps connect me to additional resources. That level of transparency is admirable in a practitioner. She perfectly walks the line between listening, support, and telling the truth when you need to hear it. It can be hard to find the right fit with a therapist, but I'm so glad that I have her to work with.
Susan is fantastic. In a short period of time she has offered me insights and challenges for growth that I had not received from my previous eight years of therapy. I feel completely comfortable in our sessions, and trust the space and guidance that she provides.
I have been working with Susan for months and when I came to her my anxiety and overwhelm was through the roof. Susan helped me to understand things about myself that I had never considered, and I have not felt this capable of managing my own emotions in a really long time. She is a wonderful human being, and really seemed to understand what was plaguing me as soon as we first talked. She has been a life saver, and I am grateful beyond belief to her.
So far, Susan has been a great help!
Susan is hands down the best counselor I have ever worked with. She listens intently, asks thoughtful questions to help you dig deeper, and offers great resources and opportunities to practice whatever you're working through in a way that works best for you. I truly enjoy every session with Susan, no matter how personally challenging. I always leave with new insights about myself and feel so encouraged. She seems to always strike the right balance of listening, offering insights, questioning further, and making connections from past sessions. I feel seen, appreciated, and valued as a client, and she really makes me feel that she's in my corner. I couldn't appreciate Susan more!!
She is a wonderful woman with a very kind and understanding heart. She really cares and it shows in how she talks, listens, and in how hard she tries to help. She is a great communicator and appears to love what she's doing.
I love Susan!!!
She’s very receptive to me and my family problems, and believe me, we have major drama and disfunction!!!
I have a bad habit of interrupting people, and I know she’ knows this, but I feel like she also knows that I need to just “get it out”... and even though I’m all over the place when I’m talking to her, she totally gets me...
She takes notes and remembers my family members names too!!!
She’s awesome and professional and knows how to deal with a wacko like me!!!
Susan has been very helpful and very respectful and supportive helping me through today.
Susan has very quickly got to the the root of my issues and is giving practical ways to help. She's exactly what I needed. I already think she's found ways to transform my life for the better.
