About me
I have dedicated my career to assisting people reach their goals and lead a happier, healthier life. As a licensed clinical social worker in Illinois for the last 25 years, I've enjoyed working with diverse individuals with a wide spectrum of needs and concerns. Much of these concerns include issues with depression, anxiety, and LGBTQ+ challenges. I also help many people who have experienced trauma.
As a therapist, I recognize that many factors contribute to the level of care a person may need, therefore, I don't use a cookie cutter approach. I try to adapt my style to the individual. Sometimes a person is stuck in a certain stage of life or career or needs validation on the approach they are choosing. I work with that person on breaking open the barriers and providing support for their next step. My counseling style is person-centered. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach includes motivational interviewing and is trauma informed, in addition to cognitive-behavioral therapy.
Addressing personal issues, transitions, and change can be stressful but you don't have to address them alone. I can assist you in moving confidently towards your goals so that you can experience a happier and more fulfilling life.
I look forward to working with you!

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Teresa Cortas. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Teresa has been valuable from day one and the longer I work with her the better the therapy gets.
Teresa is very easy to talk to. She's very supportive and insightful. She's very good at helping me and guiding me to see clearer when my mind and emotions are a mess.
Teresa has helped me overcome self esteem, confidence and trauma issues in the past year. With her help I have been able to analyze and reframe old patterns of thinking (and behavior) that were detrimental to my growth and improvement as the person I know myself to be. This time with her has proven to be extremely beneficial while traveling through tangible difficulties in my life such as toxic friendships, assault, cultural traumas and feeling unworthy of greatness. I am extremely grateful to her for her patience, understanding, and sternness when delivering necessary truths. You will not regret opening up to her <3
Teresa is excellent at her job. She is truly knowledgeable on all the issues and concepts I came to BetterHelp for assistance with, and she always maintains a perfect balance between compassion and professionalism in all of our sessions. I’m deeply grateful to BetterHelp for referring my case to her.
Teresa has helped and supported me during a challenging year. Meeting with her weekly has made a huge difference in the quality of my life and relationships during this time, and her approach has cultivated healthy changes in my way of looking at and doing things. I look forward to talking with her, and am thankful to have found her through BetterHelp!
She’s amazing!!
She is great!!!! And really listens!!!!
Teresa was a wonderful, supportive, helpful resource for me when I was struggling with having to make decisions regarding my elderly mother. I don’t know what I would have done without her help. Since then she has been there for me with her sound advice and thoughtful encouragement through my everyday ups and downs. She’s a gem.
I've been seeing Teresa for a few months now, the first time I've seen a therapist since I was in college (which was many years ago!). She's helped me so much. A fantastic listener, able to distill her observations, and offer actionable tools to manage through what faces me. Therapy isn't easy, but I always feel good (or like I discovered something new about myself) after each session.
I don’t know what else to say other than Teresa is great. She’s professional, kind, gives very good advice, and listens deeply.
Teresa is a very compassionate and kind person. I felt comfortable immediately talking to her. She is very wise!
Teresa is able to talk with me very naturally and intentionally while being effective in communicating anything with me and guiding my thoughts. Teresa is motivational, confident and is a therapist I can feel confident and secure in going to to propel me to the mental space I want to go/be in.
Insightful, good listener.
My first session went great. Really excited to continue.
