As Brene Brown states "Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen". I believe reaching out for counseling support takes courage as it leads us out of our comfort zone. Finding a supportive counselor is important and I base my practice on being a supportive and non judgmental partner to help you navigate your way through a difficult time. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been working in the counseling field for over 25 years. My goal is to partner with you to provide timely counseling support for the current challenges you are experiencing. My practice is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) using Acceptace and Commitment Theory (ACT) to help clients make steps toward a meaningful life. I incorporate Solution Focued Therapy and Mindfulness Skills into my work to help clients resolve issues effieciently and gain skills to use on a daily basis. I work within a Trauma Informed framework. Often times making one or two small changes can free a person up to move toward the life they want to live. I wholeheartedly believe in the process of change and my work with clients continues to teach me about the resiliency of the human mind and the ability to move toward a meaningful life by increasing one's psychological flexibility. I love the work I do!

Greetings!!! My name is Laura Z. and my passion in life is empowering and guiding people through their own therapeutic journey, to find happiness, peace, and a better quality of life. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker (Clinical Practice) in the State of South Carolina with over 8 years of experience as a clinician in a variety of settings, where I have worked with individuals, families, and facilitated psycho-educational and recreational groups. I have experience working with people of all populations, from children to seniors, with varying degrees of mental illnesses. My character is empathetic, down-to-earth, and honest. Clients have reported that I am approachable yet professional, which makes others feel at ease especially when delving into sensitive trauma histories. That said, I am straight-forward and genuine. I enjoy working with an integrative therapy style, incorporating elements from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Problem-Solving Therapy, to name a few. I especially like to empower clients to take back their power and control over their lives, develop boundaries, and accomplish their therapeutic goals. It is my hope that I can meet you where you are in your journey, to encourage and guide you toward positive change. I do not believe therapy looks the same for everyone, so I am happy to work with you on a plan that will meet your needs. It is time to make strides toward feeling better and feeling more content in and with your life. I look forward to working with you, Laura Z.

Is something missing in your life? Do you feel like your relationships just aren't what they could be? Do you want to thrive instead of exist? Are you struggling to get started on a change or goal? You may feel stuck right now and may be looking for inspiration in making meaningful change. Or perhaps you already have goals in mind and would like support and structure to achieve those goals. I will work with you from beginning to end to identify and learn to use your internal strengths and external resources in moving forward. Leaning into your strengths allows you to naturally make positive changes and easily take action steps. You can learn to trust your own intuition and make decisions that move you toward your best life. Many people seek help from a professional, and they find that having an objective, knowledgeable person to talk with can prompt positive change. My job is to assist you in identifying the goal, discovering resources within yourself and your environment, and putting those resources to work for you. I offer individualized services to meet your needs, and I prefer to have some phone or video sessions in addition to text support. As a counselor and coach, I use my strengths of curiosity, honesty, and perspective to walk with my clients toward meaningful change. I see each client as capable and worthy of what brings joy into their lives. It's my desire to empower my clients to live their best, authentic lives. I approach counseling from the lens of positive psychology. This means being with you, the client, where you are; helping you to acknowledge what is working and not working; identifying strengths and values that are uniquely yours; using those strengths to develop well-being and a meaningful life; and achieving the goals you set for yourself. As a Certified Health and Wellness Coach, I also work with many clients to make positive changes in their health. I often incorporate Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT- commonly called "Tapping") into my therapy sessions. In case you're interested in the official pieces, I have worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a coach for over two decades, holding a Master's degree in Clinical Counseling from The Citadel and a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University. I am a Certified Health and Wellness Coach and a Certified MentorCoach. At this time, I generally offer live sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM EST. I of course respond to messages throughout the week. I look forward to speaking with you and helping you to live your best life!

I am a marriage and family therapist who is licensed to practice in the beautiful states of Hawaii, Florida, and South Carolina. For the last 13 years, I have been working with clients from incredibly varied backgrounds dealing with a wide range of concerns. My most frequent work has been with people struggling with substance use issues, anxiety, trauma, depression, grief, and interpersonal and family relationship concerns. When I was 17, my mother passed away and I struggled with the grief and life-changes that followed. I sought the help of a marriage and family therapist and it was through her compassion and wisdom that I was able to navigate this difficult time. This therapist inspired me to want to help others in the way I had been helped and so I began my extensive studies in the world of marriage and family therapy. Over the last 20 years, I have learned and drawn from such modalities as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Structural Family Therapy. Just as my family had to encourage me to seek treatment after the death of my mother, I want to encourage you to reach out to someone who can help you with whatever you are struggling with. If that person is me, I would be honored to listen to your concerns and work with you to achieve a positive outcome.

My own journey into counseling began with personal challenges that reshaped my path. After the premature birth of my youngest, I Found out I needed a kidney transplant eight months later. With two small kids and a husband who was in the Navy, I fell into a deep depression. Getting out of bed was a struggle. With the help of an amazing therapist, I found my way back to the light. When it became clear that my transplant would prevent me from pursuing my dream of becoming a medical doctor, I sought another way to give back and found my calling in counseling. As a therapist, my mission is to assist individuals and couples in navigating their current challenges, helping them emerge stronger and more connected. Nothing brings me greater joy than concluding services with someone, knowing they have reclaimed their strength and resilience. I have two Master's degrees in counseling and have recently become a a sex therapist which allows me to support a diverse range of clients across all ages. I specialize in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an action-oriented approach that encourages embracing thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty for them. Additionally, I'm trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a psychotherapy treatment designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. Since 2012, I've made Augusta my home, relocating from New York City. My supportive husband and children stood by me throughout my educational journey, and now, with my two children grown and living in different places, I share my home with three large, loving dogs. Recently, I had the joy of welcoming my first granddaughter. I look forward to connecting with you and commend you on taking this first step toward rediscovering yourself.
