Hi! My name is Tamara. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and I have been working in the counseling field since 2001. I hold certifications as a National Board Certified Counselor, School Counselor and Violence, Loss and Trauma Counseling. I earned my Master's in Counseling and Educational Specialist in Counselor Supervision degrees from Marshall University Graduate College, where I also work as an adjunct professor. I have experience working with clients of all ages, school aged to adult, who have experienced depression, anxiety, relationship and family issues, self-esteem, self-harm, PTSD, and trauma. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches including impact therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused, transactional analysis, choice theory and trauma therapies. I tailor my approach to you and your needs. I believe it is important to find a therapist who is a good fit. I am a compassionate and straightforward counselor who is genuinely interested in the improvement in your quality of life. I believe we all need a little help and support from time to time, and I hope to help erase the stigma that is sometimes associated with "seeing a counselor". It takes courage to reach out. If you are ready to take that next step, I am ready to work with you. I work full time as a school counselor, so I schedule my own appointments. Once we determine that we are a good fit for working together, you can tell me times that work best for you for an appointment, and I will schedule . It has been my privilege and honor to work with my clients, and I am looking forward to working with you.

I have worked as a social worker since 1985. I have worked as a therapist since 1989 in inpatient psychiatric settings and outpatient, including day hospital and rehab programs in the VA system with veterans and in hospice. I have worked with all populations from children to geriatrics, including childcare worker at an emergency shelter for children , and DHHR-CPS worker, to therapist for seniors from inpatient to outpatient. Becoming a therapist is a humbling experience and has taught me we all have struggles and life events that sometimes overwhelm us. My clients have included those with eating disorders, severe mental health diagnoses, trauma clients, those with depression and anxiety, those dealing with life changes such as physical loss or the loss of a loved one, including pets. My toolbox includes using Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness skills. One of the 10 elements of mental health recovery is support. We all need support, both formal and informal. I am here if you need formal support from a therapist.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of West Virginia. I have a Master of Education with a focus on Mental Health Counseling. I have approximately 10 years of experience in helping people deal with anxiety, depression, and other mood related disorders. In addition, I have treated people with addiction problems, trauma and a history of abuse. I have assisted people in dealing with major life changes, and other types of stressors, as well as learning to live with the loss of a family member, friend, or pet. I decided to become a counselor so that I could help someone. I believe the foundation of counseling is to provide your client with a safe and caring environment. The treatment process should be a team effort including both the client and the therapist. I don't have a magic wand, but by working together, we can improve your mental health.
