Hello there. My name is Theresa!
I received my Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Southern Connecticut State University. I hold a clinical license and see families, individuals of all ages, and couples. Prior to receiving my degree, I worked as an ABA Therapist (Applied Behavior Analysis) assisting children with Autism-Spectrum disorders. I have extensive experience working with neuro-typical children and adolescents, and utilize my warm-natured and humorous personality to connect with that population on a down-to-earth level. I worked in community mental health for an extended period of time, and have a wide array of experience working with depression, anxiety, complex trauma, life-stage challenges, parenting and co-parenting, grief, emotion regulation, substance and alcohol use, boundaries, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders, oppositional and conduct-related behavior, and family dynamics. I also enjoy working with other professionals in many different careers, including but not limited to other therapists, helpers, white and blue collar professionals, and stay-at-home caregivers.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is the catalyst to making sustainable and effective changes. It is an honor and privilege to be allowed to impact someone else's life. I am not a life coach or advice giver, rather a neutral, unbiased, and non-judgemental individual with whom one can explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, collaborating to meet one's personal goals. I received certification in EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and have extensive experience assisting individuals with trauma across the life-span. I am also certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, motivational interviewing, SMART Recovery, and MATCH (Modular Approach to Therapy for Children). I tailor my therapeutic interventions to the needs of the client and will work alongside them to ensure that their needs are being met within sessions.
Thank you for taking the time to read about me. I look forward to learning more about you!
