About Me

I am a licensed professional counselor living in Texas with 5 years of experience working as a psychotherapist. In my previous professional life, I worked over 15 years in the corporate world. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including, anxiety, body image, relationship issues, parenting problems, communication issues, self-identity, self-image, self-esteem, multicultural issues, and career challenges. I also helped many people who have experienced mental, physical and emotional abuse. Every individual has strength within them to grow and change.

My counseling style is warm, sometimes direct and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines client-centered, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and trauma-informed counseling. However, I am also a strong believer in one's ability to choose in addition to exploring their purpose in life and will be willing to dive into existential or choice theory if necessary. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

Definitely takes time to understand where I’m coming from and gives me a perspective that makes me think about things differently

Had my first session with Tonya this week and it was a wonderful experience. I was nervous in the beginning, but she made me feel very comfortable throughout the session and was very insightful. She exceeded all of my expectations and I would definitely recommend her to anyone.

Tonya is, first and foremost kind, and I appreciate that. She is also very straightforward and I REALLY appreciate that. She's extreemly efficient in her methods, and that said- its not intimidating or anxiety inducing at all; she's open minded, and frankly that's wonderful- no judgement, just offering up tools and methods to heal, and I like that.

Tonya is a great listener and non-judgemental. She knows when to be gentle and when to be more firm. What more can I ask from a counselor?

Even though I have only had a couple of sessions with Tonya, I already feel immensely grateful for her support. Her ability to synthesize all of my random thoughts into meaningful conclusions always expands my self-awareness and I appreciate these insights very much. I also appreciate that she asks very relevant and productive follow-up questions during our sessions and in messages in between these meetings. Based on these exchanges, there is no doubt in my mind that she is truly listening to me and working incredibly hard to support me. I am so thankful for her and the fact that I feel so heard and respected during our conversations. I would recommend Tonya to anyone who is looking for a therapist who not only provides genuine encouragement and a warm, welcoming environment but who also knows exactly when to jump in and challenge you to grow. Thank you so much, Tonya!!
