About Me

Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from a small town in Illinois. I have over 10 years of experience working with teens, adults, and couples with a variety of life concerns/stressors. I have experience with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, grief and more. I believe everyone has struggles and challenges in life and sometimes we need a little help. Taking care of our emotional/mental health is extremely important, and I encourage my clients to become more aware of the "mind/body" connection.

As a therapist, I strive to be authentic, non-judgmental, and empathetic. I will work with you to determine your goals for therapy and encourage you to take the lead on deciding where to begin. On the other hand, if you are feeling "stuck," I can offer guidance while promoting self-determination. Clients have described me as "down to earth" and find it easy to discuss concerns and stressors. I believe life can be rather difficult, and most of the time, we are all doing our best. I don't believe in "lecturing" my clients or shaming techniques as these methods are often ineffective anyway.

Taking the first step to begin therapy can be intimidating and this is something I recognize; therefore, we will move at your pace. I look forward to working with you.

I have been working with Valerie for a few weeks. I thought I would find some benefits from "just talking to someone", and had pretty much given up on finding quality mental healthcare, but then I started working with Valerie. I had no idea how empowering, knowledgeable, and caring a good counselor can be. I am continually impressed with her knowledge, expertise, professionalism, and overall talent as a therapist. She has given me so many valuable insights, tools, and resources to guide me through my attempt at improved mental health. She's funny, down to earth, patient, and smart as can be. I couldn't be more grateful that Valerie is my counselor.
