Hi! My name is Tamara. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and I have been working in the counseling field since 2001. I earned my Master's in Counseling and Educational Specialist in Counselor Supervision degrees from Marshall University Graduate College, where I also work as an adjunct professor. I have experience working with clients of all ages, school aged to adult, who have experienced depression, anxiety, relationship and family issues, self-esteem, self-harm, PTSD, and trauma. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches including impact therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused, transactional analysis, choice theory and trauma therapies. I tailor my approach to you and your needs. I believe it is important to find a therapist who is a good fit. I am a compassionate and straightforward counselor who is genuinely interested in the improvement in your quality of life. I believe we all need a little help and support from time to time, and I hope to help erase the stigma that is sometimes associated with "seeing a counselor". It takes courage to reach out. If you are ready to take that next step, I am ready to work with you. I work full time as a school counselor, so I schedule my own appointments. Once we determine that we are a good fit for working together, you can tell me times that work best for you for an appointment, and I will schedule . It has been my privilege and honor to work with my clients, and I am looking forward to working with you.

Like many therapists, I came to this calling after many years of doing other things. Professionally, this meant translation (Russian to English), which taught me how to pop in and out of vastly different ways of looking at the world. There was also raising children, tending to a marriage and friendships, and falling in love with an artistic hobby, I have been a therapist for 20 years now. For most of those years, I worked at a community mental health clinic, where I worked with people from a huge variety of backgrounds and ways of experiencing the world. Many were very poor. Many were very sick, sometimes psychotic. I learned how to see reality through many different lenses and to join forces with my clients to make life better. After these decades, I think I have developed a fairly clear approach to helping others, which I will try to explain below. Life can be very confusing. When a person walks into a therapy room for the first time, they are often emotionally bruised and looking for some clarity about their world and their own responses to events and circumstances. It is a privilege for me as a therapist to help the people I work with to make sense of it all. I help my clients learn to listen to themselves with respect, compassion, and curiosity. People can develop this courageous curiosity when they learn to have faith that whatever they find out about themselves makes sense and is coming from a decent place. It is often difficult to cultivate the habit of validating one's own thoughts and feelings (especially if one has long experience of doing the opposite), but it is extremely rewarding as the changes begin to be noticeable.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of West Virginia. I have a Master of Education with a focus on Mental Health Counseling. I have approximately 10 years of experience in helping people deal with anxiety, depression, and other mood related disorders. In addition, I have treated people with addiction problems, trauma and a history of abuse. I have assisted people in dealing with major life changes, and other types of stressors, as well as learning to live with the loss of a family member, friend, or pet. I decided to become a counselor so that I could help someone. I believe the foundation of counseling is to provide your client with a safe and caring environment. The treatment process should be a team effort including both the client and the therapist. I don't have a magic wand, but by working together, we can improve your mental health.
