Jonathan Richard
Hello! My name is Jon Richard, LPC. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who works in Austin, Texas. After graduating from the Masters of Arts in Counseling (MAC) program at St. Edward's University, I completed an internship at Capital Area Counseling (CAC) which is the most rewarding chapter of my adult life. At CAC, I discovered my therapeutic "voice" while counseling a diverse sample of the population (those who suffered from addiction, gender dysphoria, divorce, the harsh realities of youth and middle age). By "therapeutic voice" I mean that a person-centered approach was congruent with my easy-going personality. I felt more authentic with clients when we engaged in a loose, organic conversations (sometimes informed by cognitive behavioral therapy). Since that time, I have gravitated toward Solution Focused Brief Therapy (though I cannot market myself as an official SFBT therapist). I find SFBT to be particularly liberating because it leads with inspiring the client by asking them about their desired outcome. Once I learn what difference you would like to notice in yourself, my line of questions will focus on your previous experience with happiness/success. The more vividly you can describe your history with the desired outcome, the more possible it seems. The popular saying amongst SFBT experts like Elliott Connie, MA, LPC is "It's simple, but it's not easy". I cannot promise "easy", but I will say that the journey will be meaningful and invigorating.
