Monessen was named after the Monongahela River and the German City of Essen and was incorporated in 1898. Built around the Pittsburgh Steel Company, the city was largely dependent on the mill and when they closed in 1987, Monessen had to revitalize its community. However, the town seems to be doing just fine now with a population of just over 7400.

Monessen also has an abundance of mental health care providers in and around town who can help when life seems to be shutting down as the steel mill did. If you need help for any reason, contact one of the Monessen area counselors today.

My name is Christine Abrams and I am glad you are reaching out through BetterHelp to make a positive change in your life. Therapy can be a great resource and support. The best therapy happens where there is a high level of trust between you and the counselor, so it's important to find a therapist who will be a good fit for you and the type of concerns you have. As a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania, I have been providing therapy in community mental health centers, agencies, and colleges throughout my career. I have also managed therapy programs and provided supervision for counselors to obtain professional licensure. In over 35 years of providing therapy, I have worked with individuals of all ages and from all walks of life. I have worked with people who come in with concerns like stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, life changes, and parenting issues. Working through those challenges presents great opportunity for personal growth! The therapy I provide is based in client centered and family systems theories, while integrating other approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness. This work is active and individualized. We discuss your concerns, develop priorities, and work together to accomplish your goals. I like to generate lots of options for clients to get the most out of our time together, so we may use books, helpful apps, or creative activities (like art or writing). All these would be specifically chosen for your unique concerns and interests. Since much of my training is in family work, I think about people in the context of their relationships, environment, and culture. I often ask about those topics, looking for the strengths in your life that we can harness and apply to your current concerns. I am looking forward to talking with you, helping you to develop positive strategies, and celebrating as you move forward!

How does the cost of an in-person therapist compare to BetterHelp?

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US with most therapists is $100 to $200 per hour. Should I find a Monessen therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Monessen licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is therapy worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Monessen, Pennsylvania can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Counseling with an online Monessen provider

Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
