I have been working in the behavior health field for 40 years as a therapist as well as a clinical supervisor and administrator in small and large behavioral health organizations. I was born in Kentucky and have lived in Cincinnati area for over 30 years. I went to graduate school in West Virginia and am fully licensed in Ohio. I am increasingly drawn back to doing more work directly with people, particularly those struggling with a relief from their day to day struggles and looking to find solutions to problems. I have experience with people experiencing career challenges and relationship issues all the way to people who have a severe mental illness. I love helping people find solutions to issues. I focus on the here and now and while I recognize and acknowledge the significant impact a past trauma may have on one’s life I like to focus on helping people find the way to deal with that impact in order to have a good life. I have a significant amount of experiencing helping people become more successful in their professional roles and can work with you on this if this is your need. My education and my many years of professional experience and my age has provided me with a perspective about people and how they communicate with each other that can be valuable. My style is friendly, warm, interactive and practical. I have a good sense of humor and, while its a little strange that I don't get many jokes, people often laugh at me for making jokes and for joking about myself. I believe that learning to communicate effectively as well as to laugh at ones' self are primary tools for healing. I use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). CBT usually involves efforts to adjust thinking patterns and or behaviors that can help you learn better ways of coping with life's full variety of stressors. SFBT focuses on a change model that takes on problems one at a time, sets a goal and accomplishes it quickly. I I also have a number of hours of training in Executive Coaching as well and this provided me with a slightly different perspective on therapy that is slanted toward a problem solving model.

I have a wide variety of experience in working with people who are feeling discouraged, overwhelmed and traumatized and are in need of support and coping skills. I also work with people with more serious and chronic mental health disorders by giving them support and encouragement to live in the community and live their life to the fullest. My approach is to help a person talk about their mental health at their own pace, what helps them feel safe and calm and how to do this in a way that makes them feel less stigmatized and gain support and strength through sharing their experience. I also enjoy working with family members of people that are in recovery for a serious mental illness. I have my own lived experience and feel it makes me more empathetic and understanding as a practitioner. I also am a veteran and can work with veterans by understanding some of their culture. I have been a social worker in the field of mental health for 35 plus years but more importantly I am a spouse, mother, sibling and co worker. I have experienced a lot including severe mental illness with a sibling, drug addiction with a family member, LGBTQ and teenage years. These are all people I love and have learned that life comes at people of all walks of life and I am very non judgmental because of that. I am good at putting myself in others shoes and have experienced first hand the stigma, stereotypes and misinformation people from all walks of like can encounter. My approach to helping others is to listen and explore current and past history to help gain insight and put problem solving, client-centered solutions into place. I am seen as having a calming influence on others and generally am able to get others to open up and share their concerns. I am a very open transparent person and I look forward to working with people from all walks of life. Please consider me in your selection of a therapist and I will work hard to assist you in overcoming hardships and obstacles to reach a happier more fulfilling place in your life.

After earning a dual degree in mental health and substance abuse treatment, I began to work with clients who were recovering from opioid abuse and co-occurring disorders. This gave me the unique capacity to help clients not only with addiction, but also trauma, stress, depression, low self-confidence, guilt & shame, anger, and anxiety among many other issues. In addition to general counseling services, I am seasoned in working with process addictions such as shopping, video gaming, Internet, exercise, gambling, and sex and love addictions. I have worked with many clients in the LGBTQIA community and value diversity for others and myself. I have the knowledge and skills to work with clients who struggle with sexual identity and help emotionally work through many issues that arise as a result of sexual trauma, grief or dysfunction. I also work with many clients who open and/or non-monogamous relationships. I believe that acceptance and empowerment is the foundation of this work. I use my accumulated skills to help you identify what is holding you back and how your past helps you identify your strengths to achieve the life you want. I can use a variety of approaches to fit your needs.

If I could write a letter to my younger self, I would tell her this: You are not broken. You are responding to what you’ve been through. And one day, your healing will become someone else’s hope. Hi, I’m Cherita Griffin, MS, LPCC-S, NCC, CYT, SEL-F, C-DBT, CMIP, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisory Endorsement who has spent over 20 years supporting people through mental health challenges. I’m a trauma-informed therapist who deeply understands that healing is not just clinical… it’s personal. I’m also a Certified Yoga Teacher (CYT), Social Emotional Learning Facilitator (SEL-F), Certified Dialectical Behavior Therapist (C-DBT), and Certified Mindfulness Informed Professional (CMIP), allowing me to integrate both evidence-based practices and holistic approaches into the work we do together. Many of my clients come to me struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, and low self-worth, often feeling like they “know what to do,” but can’t quite apply it to their own lives. In our work together, we don’t just talk, we gently uncover, process, and rebuild with a compassionate, real, and non-judgmental space. This is a place where: • You don’t have to have it all together • You don’t have to carry everything alone • You can finally exhale Healing is not about becoming someone new, it’s about returning to who you were before life taught you to shrink, question yourself, or survive in silence. You deserve to feel whole, worthy, and at peace.
