Jennifer Maise-Cormier
I am an addiction specialist based in Michigan. I have been providing intensive group therapy (IOP) for over 10 years to all ages of people who need help learning different habits that do not destroy their lives. In Michigan I have the highest certification and qualifications for this type of counseling called Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor or CAADC. I enjoy getting to know the whole person, their challenges, where they have come from and where they would like to go. Addiction is a disease that takes over your life and starts making all of your decisions. I can help you begin to make the decisions again. Listening and truly hearing what you say is my business. Together we can brainstorm about what you have already tried and other ways we can fight your habits. When I am not counseling, I enjoy northern Michigan, kayaking with mutts, biking with motors and without and exploring our beautiful world.

Sometimes change is unexpected and can negatively effect our ability to function in our job, carry out daily routines or manage our personal affairs. Sometimes medical challenges with ourselves and/or with others can require unexpected changes in our lifestyle. Sometimes conflict with spouses, significant others, family members, friends, or co-workers can cause unwanted or unmanageable feelings and emotions. Sometimes life challenges can make us question our self-worth or have a negative impact on how we feel about life. I have had two careers which run concurrently: many years as a parish pastor and at the same time a mental health counselor. I am strongly invested in the LGBTQ issues because of my transgender grandson's amazing journey. As a hospice chaplain, I have provided bereavement support counseling to families. As a divorce mediator employing dispute management skills, I have guided couples in making parenting decisions that are in the best interests of their children. My passion is not to be a sage on the stage but a guide by the side with individuals and couples seeking solutions that are practical. I have expertise in cognitive -behavioral counseling, rational emotive psychotherapy, anger management (especially with men who abuse), and Life Work Planning and Career Development. I have modest experience with Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and Healing Story Telling. I endeavor to blend theory and practice, while affirming growth and risk-taking. I am a non-judgmental listener. I employ humor and unconditional support routinely to neutralize resistance to change. I am old fashioned person who still believes in unconditional positive regard and seeking a truth that sets people free.
