I am a licensed professional clinical counselor with over twelve years of experience as a counselor and psychotherapist. In addition, I bring over forty years of wisdom gleaned from working with individuals who prove time and again the resilience of the human spirit gives them the ability to overcome odds to find an optimal quality of life. Each person not only has their own unique challenges, but they have the capacity to be their own teachers and find answers within, therefore each treatment plan differs accordingly. Your concerns and purpose for seeking counseling will enable me to develop an effective treatment plan that will help you to find wholeness. My counseling style is to create a nurturing environment that invites openness and transparent authenticity by being a listening presence. I highly value human dignity and am a non-judgmental respecter of persons and find that there is an innate goodness in all persons. This goodness is at the core of our work to help you find balance of mind, body and spirit in all areas of your life. I specialize in relationship issues, self-esteem, self-worth and identity concerns, conflict resolution, anger management, depression, grief and loss, feelings of shame, trauma and abuse, spiritual discernment and whatever is troubling your soul that needs mending in order to give you inner peace and joy.

Hi, my name is Jeff Owen. I support your decision to reach out for help, and I welcome the opportunity to partner with you in overcoming your current challenges. As difficult as these may be, my experiences over the years strengthen my confidence in the very significant accomplishments we may be able to achieve together. I am an independently Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of Ohio, with a graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling, and over 40 years of experience working with a broad spectrum of client concerns. My earliest professional experiences involved helping Vietnam combat veterans cope with severe, post-traumatic stress. In the years since, I have worked almost exclusively with adults between eighteen and eighty-five, grappling with a broad range of emotional difficulties, including depression, anxiety, grief and loss, addiction recovery and relapse issues, difficult “life-stage” transitions, LGBTQ+ issues, geriatric concerns, and emotional, physical, and sexual trauma. Excited and encouraged by published documentation of effective work being done with trauma survivors and others by practitioners of regression therapy in the 1980s, I studied and received certification in clinical hypnotherapy in1992. Since then, I have enjoyed considerable success applying those techniques with carefully screened sufferers from trauma-related problems. My highest personal priority, and the foundation of all my therapeutic work, continues to be the creation of a safe, reliably supportive, healing space in which the client experiences unequivocal respect and unconditional acceptance. To that end, I believe an active dialogue, involving maximum therapist participation and authenticity, is essential from the outset. Once rapport has been established, I allow our ongoing interactions to build and strengthen our alliance, while confronting and systematically tackling obstacles to the attainment of more specific goals. As my personal style has evolved, I have become increasingly cognitive and didactic in my interventions, as it's been my experience that people report feeling most empowered when they understand the nature and implications of their difficulties. My approach is thoroughly grounded in humanistic philosophy and reflects the significant influences of Eriksonian and Jungian views on human development. Beyond that, in actual practice, I am eclectic, pragmatic, and flexible. Further, my recent decade of work with people in extreme crisis has prompted me to become increasingly trauma-focused and creative in combining cognitive-behavioral approaches with other modalities, as each client's unique needs demand. I know you wouldn't be here if it weren't for your considerable distress, but, even so, I sincerely believe it takes a great deal of courage to risk venturing outside your customary zone of familiarity and safety, to both seek relief and take the first steps of change toward a more fulfilling life. If you are ready to take those steps I am here to support and empower you.

Jeffrey’s focus is on a variety of life issues that impede the unique potential of the individual. These include substance abuse and dependency, Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder, anxiety, depression, and trauma as well as major life events that happen to us all. Jeffrey works with people from all walks of life including children, couples, and adults. His approach to counseling is person centered / existential and is concerned primarily with a person’s goals, aspirations, and realization of meaning. Jeffrey views life “problems” not as impediments to attaining goals but as opportunities. Person centered counseling is not a platform on which one seeks advice or fears being judged, as if “under the microscope”. Rather it is a collaborative conversation based on unconditional positive regard, in which counselor and client journey together towards the client’s realization of meaning and goals. Jeffrey has recently began using a tele-health platform to do video counseling online with clients. If you are interested in online counseling please request at Email: smartja23@gmail.com
