Greetings. My name is Lee Shadeck and I have been helping people in one form or another since I got fired from a gas station in 1996. I got my introduction into the helping professions in Southern Oregon working with adults with disabilities for a few years before returning home to Pennsylvania to start a family with my wife. I received my Bachelors Degree in Education in 2001 and promptly chose not to use that degree for it's intended purposes and became a Crisis Worker on and off for the next decade. I have worked in group homes, taught Life Skills to incarcerated youth, have been a Case Manager to dual diagnosed adults, and have been the liaison to a State Hospital for adults with Developmental Disabilities. I received my Masters Degree in Counseling in 2011 and have been working as a counselor in higher education as well as doing a bit of adjunct instruction since that time. So I understand that the career and life path is often not a direct route. I am the father of three beautiful, intelligent, well adjusted, usually content, sometimes happy, emerging adults and I hold my job in helping them become good humans as my most valued and important purpose in my existence. I was married to the same woman for the past twenty-three years, since we were but ourselves emerging adults, and understand that even with friendship, love, and respect this type of partnership has it's ebbs and flows; and sometimes relationships are just completed. I understand how difficult the loss of love can be; but also understand that life can be great again after these hardships. I love the outdoors and am constantly hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, biking, walking, or sitting by a fire. I believe in the ability in nature to restore the energy that we constantly give out and always urge people to be outside, no matter the conditions, in order to recharge themselves. I am a youth soccer coach and believe in giving to the community through volunteerism in areas that you find important. I enjoy being creative and productive. I love starting and finishing home improvement projects. I enjoy reading and am passionate about music although I myself am not musically inclined in the least. I understand that even when we are doing everything "right" and doing the things we love...life can still be difficult and sometimes really fricken hard. I consider myself a eclectic person centered counselor who prides myself on the ability to start and maintain positive relationships with my clients in order to enact the changes they wish to see, get through rough patches, reach goals. or just be "happyish". I am open, honest, friendly, and pretty normal. I will work closely with you to help you solve your own issues as I feel we often hold the answers to our own questions.

34 years of experience as a mental health therapist

I am a psychologist licensed in the state of Pennsylvania with over 30 years of training and experience in helping people working through many of life's struggles. My doctoral studies were in clinical psychology, and my first masters degree was in marriage and family systems. Across the years I've worked in with many different concerns ranging from: depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, fears, and emptiness ... to ...struggles adapting to change of roles and growth through life ... to ... thought disorders ... to ... PTSD from war related experiences, molestations, and rape. I too have been in therapy several times across the years, and so offer my services as someone who has been greatly helped by this process as well as having extensive training and practical experience. I appreciate how difficult it is to seek help, and how frightening it may be to need help. My approach is centered around helping you become more of who you are at the deepest levels rather than what anyone else believes you need to be. I offer my services as a guide to help you through your own world of thoughts, feelings, and experiences in an attempt to find meaning. Across the years I've worked in community clinic settings, private practice, Federal prisons, nursing homes, and in-home/community children's services. My therapeutic style is a casual and caring person centered, including skills sets and models derived from Existential, Jungian, Object Relations, Family Systems, and Cognitive Behavioral approaches. I approach this work with a keen awareness of spirituality and use this to inform our discussions without pushing any specific religious model. Personally, I was raised in Japan for 10 years as a young child during the Vietnam war. I experienced racial hatred and fears as students rioted in front of my house. My father would take me with him to visit wounded soldiers from a very young age. I know personally about the pain of trying to live, sometimes living up to our dreams and at other times failing. Through the years I've been honored by numerous people who have shared their hopes, dreams, fears and wounds. I look forward to the opportunity to explore healing with you.

5 years of experience as a mental health therapist

I am licensed in Pennsylvania with 5 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, trauma and abuse, anger management, & bipolar disorder. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. I have most of my experience working in partial hospital settings, working with people with significant mental illness as well as a couple years of experience working in individual outpatient settings, and I have extensive experience working with people who have been diagnosed with personality disorders. My approach to counseling assumes that you are the expert in your life and that the symptoms that you experience are due to the challenges of life. The diagnosis is not as important as what contributes to how you feel and what we can work on together so that managing those stressors can be easier. I have a relaxed approach to counseling and try to learn as much about you, your background, and the issues that cause you to seek help. It is important for me to try to gain perspective of the issues as you see them so that I can provide the most relevant help I can. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am here to help. I am happy to answer any questions you may have before beginning work.

Hello and thank you for taking this first step . I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience as a therapist and nearly 20 years of experience as a social worker. I have spent time working with a variety of populations throughout my career. I have provided mental health treatment to a vast array of clients from all different walks of life. I love this aspect of being a therapist because it has allowed me to gain perspective and understanding of so many different cultures and lifestyles. I am calm and empathetic, I believe in therapy and the power it has to help a client actualize their best self possible. Therapy is a journey that will help you explore the feelings you are having and maybe even figure out where they came from. Our feelings can be so hard to understand that we often just "deal with it". While that may provide some temporary relief, it does not give you any sense of direction. It's important to understand that your feelings are important, meaningful, and valid. They are your feelings and you are entitled to them without judgement from others. You can even feel them without feeling bad about feeling bad! Believe it or not, its ok to not be ok. I think it is helpful to think of therapy in terms of the old cliché about leading a horse to water but being unable to make the horse drink. This therapeutic relationship is ours to build. I can get you to the water, but when you get there, if you don't want to drink, you won't drink. Let's work together to see if “taking a drink” of some new ideas and perspectives could help you feel more equipped to function in a place of strength and confidence. It seems overwhelming, but you’re not alone with your thoughts anymore. We can do this!

Understanding the type of therapy you'd like to search for is crucial before finding a therapist or psychologist in Schwenksville. Perhaps you're interested in narrowing your search for a psychotherapist that can offer psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), talk therapy, provide group therapy, marriage and family therapy for individuals or couples, or couples therapy. Each type of therapy can offer various benefits and address or treat different disorders. If you're still unsure or are new to counseling in Schwenksville, feel free to contact the provider via email to find out which methods they practice.

It is also important to understand that mental health professionals in the United States are accredited to provide care, helping individuals and couples, with a variety of licenses. These include licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), and clinical psychologist or doctor of psychology (PsyD). Regardless of their licensure, they are trained to treat individuals and couples counseling, and sometimes children, in any type of therapy in the Schwenksville region and in the state of Pennsylvania. Find a therapist under any of these distinctions and know that the sessions they offer can provide a safe place to heal.

A mental health counselor working through their own in-person therapy practice in Schwenksville or online may assist clients in improving healthy relationships, communication skills, working through life transitions, couples counseling, managing a mood disorder, improving coping skills, self help tips, offer life coaching, family therapy, or change in negative thinking patterns. A therapist may also provide a safe place and validation for clients experiencing emotional pain, or that simply want a psychological assessment. Verified providers can provide licensed marriage and couples therapy, tailor to individual needs, and create a therapeutic relationship as a National Certified Counselor.

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US is $100 to $200 per hour. These prices may be higher in Schwenksville due to a higher cost of living. How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Schwenksville?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a Schwenksville therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A Schwenksville therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in PA, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 19473 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Schwenksville counselor?

Before seeing your Schwenksville therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the therapy process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, let them know if you have any concerns about therapy or feel unsure about what to talk about. They may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy in Schwenksville.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what therapy entails. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback and advice from a therapist. A Schwenksville licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find through therapy with a Schwenksville counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Schwenksville, Pennsylvania can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Schwenksville has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online therapy to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
