Amy Matthews
I have been doing counseling for over 35 years. When I lived in Pennsylvania, I worked as a school counselor in a high school for 28 years and also maintained a private practice. Since moving to Florida, I worked in a private practice in which I specialized in both adolescents and adults. I also work with families and couples. I worked at Better Help before and formed many successful relationships with clients. I consider myself to be an eclectic counselor who is genuine, supportive, and empathetic. I have been in therapy many times and definitely understand how helpful it can be to have someone who is in your corner, advocating and believing solely in you. I consider myself liberal and non-judgmental and I would be surprised if there was something you could tell me that I have not heard before, I also have a strong sense of humor and know that humor has saved me many times from my own issues. I received my Master's degree in 1980 in Marriage, family, and Child Counseling, but I consider that my life experience just as important in having added to my counseling skills. Many counselors can learn from books, but I incorporate all I have learned in my own life experience into the work I do with clients. Let's talk.
Lynette Maggs
My name is Lynette Maggs and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida. I started my practice in a community mental health agency in the state of Florida gaining a wealth of knowledge and perspective of the scope of mental illness within our communities. This led me down the path to specialize in areas such as the welfare of children and families affected by trauma and its impact not only on the individual, the family but also the entire community. I have worked with families and individuals who have experienced anxiety, depression, abuse/neglect, parenting difficulties, addiction, stress, loss, and the day to day hurdles each of us face in life. I would describe my approach as empathetic, warm, goal oriented, and client centered. I use Cognitive Behavioral therapy, as well as Client Focused therapy as the basis to my therapeutic approach to help my clients set goals and objectives, work through their traumas, and feel empowered once they have met their goals. I earned my Bachelor Degree through attending universities in the eastern U.S as my family traveled with my husband in his Coast Guard career. My Master Degree from Liberty University, Virginia in Mental Health Counseling. I have been practicing in the field for the past 20 years with a wealth of training and experiences prior to this time. I believe humor is essential as we face our hurdles in life and this has been lent to me through the 36 years of marriage, a daughter and navigating this all through 20 years of military life.

Joseph Setchel
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 20 years of experience in the mental health field. I began my journey into the helping professions in 1995 at Stetson University. In 1999 I graduated from that institution with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a minor in Music. After a brief hiatus to "catch my breath", I returned to school at the University of Central Florida. I completed my studies at UCF in 2002, graduating with a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology. Following a 2 year post-Masters internship and a wealth of real world experience I was awarded my license in Mental Health Counseling in 2007. My approach to therapy varies from person to person. Some may benefit from a Cognitive Behavioral perspective to tackle negative thoughts and emotions while others may benefit from a more Existential approach. My focus is always on the needs and wants of the individual seeking help. Regardless of the method we employ, I also view therapy as a process that should be productive. A person receiving counseling should be able to see increased insight, more effective coping strategies, clarity, better decision-making skills or a combination of these. The counseling I provide is typically a combination of multiple modalities, including Solution Focused Therapy. The core values that drive my philosophy with regard to therapy are choice, authenticity, honesty, cultural awareness and positive regard. You are a unique individual. There has never been and will never be another you. Who you are is determined by a host of factors including genetics, upbringing , your heritage and the culture in which you were raised. You've taken an amazing first step by coming to BetterHelp.com. If you like, we can take the next steps on your journey together. I look forward to meeting you!

Brittany Dunn
I’m Brittany, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida with 10 years of experience in the mental health field. I work with adults who may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, emotionally exhausted, or unsure of how to move forward. Many of my clients are navigating depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, grief, low self-esteem, stress, or major life transitions. My style is warm, collaborative, and practical. I want therapy to feel like a space where you can speak openly without judgment while also gaining tools that help you make meaningful changes in everyday life. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and person-centered approaches to help clients better understand patterns in their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, strengthen coping and communication skills, and move toward their goals with greater clarity and confidence. I believe you do not need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. We can begin with where you are now and work together at a pace that feels comfortable for you. For clients who would like faith to be part of the process, I am also comfortable incorporating Christian beliefs and values into our work. "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." Albert Einstein
Michael Northsea
Hello, my name is Michael. I have been a License Mental Health Counselor in Florida since 2009 and have been in the mental health field since 2006. I have worked with a wide range of clientele from individuals with several and chronic mental illness to suicidal adolescents to inmates facing life sentences. I wanted to tell you a little story about myself. In 2015, I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer and treated it with chemotherapy. In 2017, I was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia which I learned was a side effect of this initial chemotherapy. I spent a month in the hospital, only growing worse and nearly meeting my demise. I knew I needed a new approach. I began my journey into naturalistic healing with food, herbs, and life-style changes. I was able to heal myself. This experience changed my life and way I counsel. I now believe that the use of food, herbs, and lifestyle changes help your mood, mind, everything! So, I have been thinking a lot about my counseling style. To be honest, I really don’t have one in particular. I use a collective approach. I use a little CBT, DBT, Motivational Interview, Person First, and even Emotion Code. However, I don’t believe just talk therapy makes someone 'happy'. It is a holistic approach. I encourage clients to mediate, exercise, eat whole food. I have recently been doing a lot of research on medication resistance depression and the negative affects of antidepressants and other psychotropic medications. Am interested in helping clients through psychotropic withdrawal.
Heidi Collins
I am a mental health and addictions counselor, licensed in Florida as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) with over 12 years of experience working in clinical practice. I work with clients who experience a wide range of symptoms and concerns, including addictions, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, family conflicts, anger management, motivation, self-esteem, relationship issues, ADHD and more. My therapy style is warm, caring and interactive. My Christian worldview forms the lens through which I view clients. I believe that every person has dignity since they were made in the image of God. I also believe that everyone has depravity due to sin. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and will never shame you for anything you share with me. It takes a lot of courage to share the painful and shameful parts of yourself, and I will always hold your heart gently during those times of sharing. I want to know the whole you and will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and emotion focused therapy. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards change. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you. Online therapy vs. in-person therapy in Florida
Online therapy and in-person therapy both connect you with a licensed professional, and the main difference is how you meet. In-person therapy takes place at an office and may involve travel and set appointment windows. Both formats can support meaningful progress, so the right choice often comes down to what fits your life.
