10 years of experience as a mental health therapist

I first became interested in working with mental health when I returned home from Afghanistan while in the Army National Guard. I have seen many friends fall victim to substance abuse, depression, and PTSD. I swore that I would work on being in the position to best help veterans and others who go through difficult situations. Being an addictions counselor and Social Worker is very personal to me. It is my passion. Seeing that I already had a bachelor's in Community Health, I made it my goal to become some kind of practitioner. When I learned about Social Work, I was overwhelmed with the idea of getting my Masters and working towards a license. A few years later, I finally received my Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am proud of my license and it took 5 years of hard work to attain. I have now been working in the mental health and addiction field for roughly 10 years. I first got into counseling in the military. After a few years of working in inpatient mental health and substance abuse, I spent some time outpatient. I specialize in addictions but have much experience with people with depression, anxiety, and trauma. I have an extra certified credential of being a Certified Trauma Therapy Professional. I also have experience helping people dealing with relationships, careers, and other life issues as well. Also, I have experience working with those who have a criminal background. I try to listen and understand your problems and point of view the best I can. Based on this I work with you to develop a plan to help you make improvements. My main focus is to help you make a positive change. I hope to work around your needs. It's my hope that I can help support you through whatever it is you're going through. Some people just want support, while others want formal therapy. Just let me know what it is you're looking for. Sometimes people just need to talk to someone or need positive encouragement. I am happy to give this as well. I am here to be a positive person in the lives of people that need more positive people. In my free time, I like being with my family and animals. I like to attend sporting events and concerts.

Hello! I'm Jenny, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Since graduating from IU School of Social work in 2011, my focus has mostly been on those with intellectual disabilities and mental health issues. I have worked with several individuals on the Autism spectrum, as well as individuals with Down's Syndrome, ADHD, Bi-polar disorder, GAD, among others. I have worked as a behavior therapist for the past 8 years and am looking to continue to help others through additional platforms. I believe it is important to focus on the individual and determine what works best for each person. I tend to focus more on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as well as utilizing a strength based approach. Overall, I would say I utilize an individualized eclectic approach. Reaching out for help is an incredible sign of strength and I applaud you for making that first step. If you would like me to assist you on that path, feel free to contact me.

21 years of experience as a mental health therapist

I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for 21 years working with individuals, couples, families and adolescents. I began my career working with high school students in a church setting which I enjoyed, but realized that young people needed so much more for their social and emotional well-being than I knew at that time. During the years, I discovered the power of family dynamics in the mental health of children and adults. This led me to pursue my Master's in Social Work from Aurora University in Illinois and become licensed in Illinois,. I am also licensed in Montana where I lived and worked on the Blackfeet Reservation in a small school and now in Indiana where I currently reside. I have experience with people who have depression, anxiety, PTSD and grief issues. I have also done therapy with survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and have experienced other trauma in their lives. I have a therapy style that draws on several therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness Based Therapies. I believe that holistic approaches that acknowledge the mind, body and spirit connection can be very effective with people who are dealing with today's fast paced lives that often lead to stress related problems. Finding balance as we go through life transitions can come by attending to our mental and physical health on a daily basis. I enjoy working with people who are actively engaged in their own health and well-being and have been told that I connect well with people of all ages. I am eager to help you work towards health and balance in your life.

21 years of experience as a mental health therapist

I am licensed in Indiana with 21 years of professional work experience. I have experience working with individuals, couples, and families in several areas of focus, including relationship issues, family conflicts, intimacy related issues, parenting issues, mood disorders, and personality disorders. Though I have significant clinical experience with adolescents and young adults, my focus has shifted over time, and I now work exclusively with couples/marriages, and individual adult clients. My practice is foundationally dependent on Christian principles and, as a result, I’ve been able to incorporate essential faith-based tools (such as grace, forgiveness, humility, self-sacrifice, etc.) to my clinical “toolbox”, alongside established, evidence based treatment modalities, including CBT, DBT, EMDR, et al. I firmly believe that the first and most important goal of therapy is the creation of a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients. The strength of that relationship is well understood to be the best predictor of successful outcomes. So, you can expect a therapeutic environment in which mutual trust is paramount, thoughts and feelings are shareable without fear of judgment, and authenticity & empathy are essential to the process. Making the decision to intentionally discuss personal issues with a stranger (regardless of the cryptic letters after their name) can be hard, and even scary. But please don’t think it suggests any kind of “weakness” - it doesn’t, Doing this takes determination and courage, as well as the simple recognition that life is hard, and none of us can do it alone.

With a lot of people in IN, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 46390 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Wanatah counselor?

Before seeing your Wanatah therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the therapy process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, let them know if you have any concerns about therapy or feel unsure about what to talk about. They may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy in Wanatah.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what therapy entails. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback and advice from a therapist. A Wanatah licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find through therapy with a Wanatah counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Wanatah, Indiana can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Wanatah has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online therapy to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
