Georgetown has a rich history, including as a border town in the Civil War. Many families and residents of the town were divided in their loyalties and politics during this time, and those sentiments caused conflict for many years. Conflict such as this is common in life, and it can often cause depression, stress or anxiety.

If you are suffering from these emotions due to conflict or stress in your life, it can help to talk to someone outside the situation. Georgetown-area counselors are available to be a listening ear and offer their advice and guidance to help you overcome such conflict. Contact a therapist today.

I have over 20 years experience in counseling and have worked with a diverse range of people and problems. I have a laid back, empathetic approach and will listen - not judge. I'm experienced in working with depression, anxiety, bipolar, grief, addictions, aging & disability issues, LGBTQIA+ , work & relationship issues. My undergraduate degree is in sociology & psychology, and I have a master's in social work. I will listen and give support, and if you need some honest, constructive feedback about your issues, I'm ready. I want to help you create healthier boundaries and build the confidence to express yourself fully. As a social worker I am trained to look at the big picture: how we all affect each other, including our friends & family., our workplace & our community, & even the larger world. I understand the need for social justice and diversity. We need to work together to solve problems. But before we can fully do that, we need to work on ourselves.

My theory of choice is the Adlerian Theory. However, I function from an eclectic approach as I used various techniques/ theory to reach my clients ( e.g., client center; cognitive behavior; brief therapy model; evidence based; mindfulness; etc). I often use the first 10 - 15 minutes of the session to process what has happen in the client's life since our last contact. The reminder of the session is used to introduce the client to techniques/ interventions he or she could utilize to mange her /his symptoms, behaviors, or environmental stressors that maybe associated the identified area of need of environmental stressors that may have occurred between sessions. Homework assignments are implement and these assignments normally consist of the client implementing the techniques/ intervention. During the next session, the client will be encouraged to reflect on the effectiveness of this technique/ intervention. My most powerful techniques are empathy, active listener, and genuine personality.
