Hello there! My name is Lizzie and I am a fully licensed therapist (LMSW, CCTP) in the State of Michigan, US and here on BetterHelp. I have been in practice for 10 years and I especially LOVE working with people from different places all over the world! I am truly excited to get the opportunity to get to know you and your story! I consider it a privilege when a person makes the choice to allow me a glimpse into their world. So, I thank YOU for making the brave decision to reach out. You will find that I have a very intentionally casual and laid-back style in therapy. Therapy doesn't have to be any harder than it already is! I am coming from a strength-based, relational and humanistic perspective as I believe that the most important component of the therapeutic process is the very relationship itself between client and therapist. In addition to the standard messaging back and forth in the main counseling room, the "meat and potatoes" of this process will be our live sessions. These sessions occur in real time and last for 45 minutes. They are scheduled by you ahead of time and you can find my weekly availability by checking out my schedule here on BetterHelp. I strive to be sure that my clients feel heard, respected, valued and supported by creating a safe devoid of judgement where I will meet you where you are, not drag you to where I or anyone else thinks you should be, and I hope to help you find some peace, some knowledge, some awareness, perhaps a different perspective, and most importantly, some healing. As I already said, I believe the relationship between client and therapist is key to effective work. Therapy is not an overnight fix. And if you are looking for a brief solution-focused approach, I'm not your girl. I believe that by taking the time and effort to build a foundation of trust, I will provide the understanding and empathy, the guidance, and the gentle challenges necessary to be sure that you meet (and even exceed, in some cases) your treatment goals. Buckle up because you are in for a bit of a wild ride when you enter therapy, but I would argue that it's worth it, and that you will come out on the other side of it not just a more balanced, more strength-focused, more positive and happier version of yourself, but also with the tools and shift in perspective to maintain that upward trajectory long after our work together has come to an end. I earned my Bachelor's Degrees in Biology and Criminal Justice and my Master's Degree in Social Work with a Clinical emphasis from Grand Valley State University. I am a Licensed Clinical Master's Level Social Worker and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional with 10 years of professional experience counseling people of all ages from all different cultures/walks of life struggling with all manner of issues spanning from diagnosable mental health disorders, relationship and/or family issues, career difficulties, overall lack of motivation and/or direction in life, and/or just simply emotional imbalance, dysregulation and/or dis-ease. If we sound like a good fit, let's take the first steps toward figuring it all out. And if we are not a good fit, it's super simple to change therapists on this app with no awkwardness or discomfort at all!

25 years of experience offering psychology treatment

Hi! My name is Fran Cowen Adler and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the State of Michigan. I’ve worked as a therapist in a variety of private and group settings since earning my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1998. In the 25 years I’ve been in practice I’ve worked with teens, couples, families, Pride/LGBTQ clients, and individuals as young as 3 and as old as 80. I’ve helped people with depression; anxiety; stress; problems at work or at home; issues with family members or friends; relationship challenges; difficulty making decisions or finding satisfying work; struggles adjusting to change; grief over the death of a loved one or other significant loss. In other words, I work with individuals in emotional pain, a condition that simply comes with living life as a human being. If you’ve never seen a therapist before, you’ve probably had the experience of feeling better after talking with a trusted and compassionate family member or friend. One advantage of seeing a therapist is that this person exists outside of your personal life. You don’t need to be concerned about things like confidentiality. Sharing your thoughts and feelings with a nonjudgmental professional in a safe atmosphere of acceptance and support can be enormously helpful and therapeutic. Over these two decades of practice it has been my pleasure, honor, and privilege to help many people navigate their way forward through particularly challenging times. Thank you for your interest, and I hope to hear from you soon!

I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) since 2018. I counseled the previous 2 years at a Limited License Professional Counselor (LLPC) at Par Rehabilitation. I worked and learned under Todd Westfall as an LLPC. I stayed on at Par for nearly 2 years after earning my LPC . I have since moved on to Fountain of Wisdom and Hope and A New Day Counseling. Since starting to counsel, I have worked with individuals with employment cases, depression, anxiety, autism, visually impaired, bi-polar and schizophrenia. I have worked in the disability environment my entire life. I have worked in direct care group homes, Hope Network, Community Mental Health and Harris Development Center. I have experience in case management of disability claims, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, SSI/SSDI claims with the Social Security Administration, short-term disability claims with Sedgwick CMS. Another area that I have experience in is with the Lansing Public School system. I worked as a special education assistant working with special education students and at-risk students. At age 18 I suffered a traumatic brain injury and had to overcome nearly all of life's obstacles to not only to become independent but to educate myself in the midst of living with the effects of a traumatic brain injury . So that experience gives me a unique perspective of how a client feels living with a disability and having the knowledge and information learned and used as a professional counselor. I appreciate you spending time reading my profile if you feel my education, life experiences and work experiences could help you get to where you want to go please give me a call. Thank You Charlie Rose

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about therapists and mental health services

Some other commonly asked questions on therapy with a licensed counselor and BetterHelp serving the Otsego area can be found below:

How does the cost of in-person counseling with a therapist compare to the cost of BetterHelp with a licensed Otsego therapist?

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US with most therapists is $100 to $200 per hour. These prices may be higher in Otsego due to a higher cost of living, and a limited number of therapists taking new clients. The price also depends on the type of provider you are looking for. See the following average prices for various mental health providers without insurance:

  • Counseling with a psychiatrist: $150-$500
  • Counseling with therapists: $100-300
  • Therapy with a clinician: $100

While many psychologists in Otsego may not take health insurance, some in the state of Michigan may work on a sliding scale, meaning they'll factor in your income and charge what you can afford per session. With a BetterHelp therapist throughout the state of Michigan you can expect significantly more affordable options, with sessions ranging from $65 to $100 per week (billed every four weeks).

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Otsego?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of Otsego therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in MI, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 49078 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site where you can schedule a session based on your and the therapist's schedule. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists around or in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Otsego counselor?

Before seeing your therapist near you, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Otsego therapists near you may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn how to best help and support you.

BetterHelp will help you find and connect to a licensed professional counselor helping people. Get started today to book a personalized consultation appointment online.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Otsego licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Otsego counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Otsego, Michigan can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Otsego has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
