Hello and congratulations on taking the beginning steps of seeking support in your own life journey. Thank you for taking the time to check out my counseling profile! Let me tell you a little about myself so you can decide if we would be a good fit in what I believe is a partnership in obtaining your optimal emotional health and growth. I have worked as a licensed counselor for 15 years. I have worked in various settings, such as clinic, residential, hospital, and school. My time in counseling has been spent working with families, youth, and adults. When considering my counseling style, I strive to offer a warm, welcoming, non judgmental, honest, and empowering environment. I believe that everyone’s story is unique to them and your own held perspective is powerful in understanding how you interpret life events and experiences. I want to hear your story from your view point and then together create goals that you identify as a priority. I also want you to be aware that sometimes counseling can be uncomfortable. I strongly believe that we sometimes have to challenge our thinking and become comfortable with being uncomfortable in order to grow and emerge stronger. I use a person centered approach, which means you direct the goals and identify what you want to work on. I also use solution focused therapy (let’s look at what has ever worked or gone well for you) and cognitive behavior therapy because I believe that our thoughts strongly influence our behavior and held beliefs. I also include dialectical behavior therapy if you need support in accepting your thoughts and emotions and regulating emotions. I believe strongly in incorporating music, animals, humor, and connecting to the outdoors as potentially healing to the soul. Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and please let me know if you would like to connect further!

I have experience working a variety of individuals from various walks of life with a variety of challenges and presentations, such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, mood swings/bipolar symptoms, relationship/family challenges, personality disorders, communication challenges, grief/loss, and much more. My intention is for you to feel comfortable building trust with me, knowing that you will be welcomed into a non-judgmental atmosphere where we will work as a partnership to meet your goals. When beginning therapy, my approach is to provide support by learning about you from a biopsychosocial model, identifying how your biological, psychological, and social factors have impacted you to create the person you are today. From there, I use a range of interventions to support you in managing and reducing the challenges you are currently experiencing; Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, techniques from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Strength's Based Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness Therapy. 25 years offering treatment

Hello, my name is Sheila Funk-Jansen. I am a licensed clinical therapist in Iowa and Illinois. I graduated with my MSW in social work in 2003 from University of Missouri-Columbia. I have worked with a variety of courageous people in my journey to help them be more vulnerable, brave, and resilient. For the last 25+ years, I I have worked with people experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, family conflicts, and many other areas of life. I believe people have the resiliency to move the barriers that life presents to us. Life is all about learning. Learning about ourselves and giving up our comforts in life are scary even if they are unhealthy. Each person is unique and I am here to start where you are at in your journey. I utilize therapy approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focus Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing along with utilizing other modalities. The client and therapist's alliance is crucial in providing a safe, non judgmental space to be open and vulnerable to see their potential and resiliency to grow when experiencing hurt and pain. I see people through the week along with some weekends. I work with schedules as much as I can to help get people in sooner when needed. I look forward in working with you. Sheila

I believe that every person holds the power and resources necessary to find happiness. As a trans woman I understand both the external and the internal forces that create self-doubt and spike fear—the loneliness, the separateness, and the tailspin of uncertainty. I know, too, from professional and personal experience that self-acceptance and happiness are within everyone--and science clearly indicates that those who seek help benefit from it. I utilize a mindfulness-based approach, working primarily with members of the LGBTQAI+ community, but I welcome all those who seek an empathic, supportive, and nonjudgmental collaborator to a better, more fulfilling and satisfying life????️‍????
