12 years of experience as a mental health therapist

I am an MSW,LCSW that has spent most of my career in the healthcare field. In that setting I have learned a lot of crisis intervention skills and adjustment problem coping skills as people generally go through a period of crisis while trying to adjust to a new illness and all that can go along with that. I have also been in private practice since 2007 and the bulk of my patients suffer with anxiety disorders (panic attacks, social anxiety, phobias, etc.); Depression/Bipolar disorder; Eating disorders; Relationship struggles; Anger, OCD and couples counseling. I have a Masters in Social Work and a clinical license in Social Work which allows me to be in private practice. I also have gone through a lot of training on Mindfulness (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course) where I have learned how to practice mindfulness and meditation to name a few. It is a very powerful coping tool but not everyone is open to it. Therefore I am use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) along with a Strengths Perspective. Using the CBT allows us to understand how our thoughts affect how we feel and then how we behave, which can also be enlightening. The Strengths Perspective gets us in touch with a person's strengths, because regardless of what we are dealing with we all have strengths and using them to build upon in the spirit of solving the problem @ hand. Sometimes we arent even aware of the skills we already have or how to use them to help ourselves in our current state. My approach can also be a combination of what is listed above but the most important way to help someone is to listen and then be able to understand/diagnose the problem clearly because we cant solve a problem without knowing what it truly is. I believe we all have the ability to embrace change when we are ready and truly enjoy helping people along that journey!

20 years of experience as a mental health therapist

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to review my profile! My name is Adriana and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of New Jersey. I have twenty years of experience in the field, starting right after I graduated from the University of Miami with my MS.Ed in Mental Health Counseling. I grew up in New Jersey, did my undergraduate studies at Albright College in Reading, PA, earning my BA in Psychology and Sociology. My experience began working with folks with severe and chronic mental health issues, and have been able to work with them, along with other populations since that time. Over the last almost seventeen years, I have been part of the senior management team of behavioral health agencies, one in Miami Beach and one which is a State wide one in New Jersey and I have had the privilege to work with many different people and specialties such as anxiety, compassion fatigue, esteem issues, life transitions, depression, suicide prevention, trauma, multicultural issues, severe and chronic mental health, co-occurring (behavioral health and addiction disorders), faith based, gender & sexuality identity and homeless. I believe that the core of any effective therapy begins with a therapeutic alliance. Good relationships foster trust and openness, thus, while I may use different styles of therapy, there will always be some good, old fashioned person centered values in there. Styles that we may use include psychodynamics, cognitive behavioral and mindfulness. In reality, it will be a combination of what will work best for each individual. My main goal is to help you feel comfortable, explore some issues, process and work through them in the manner that is most suited for you. I have been able to work with people from various ethnicities, races, education, religions and socioeconomic backgrounds. I have a Christian/Roman Catholic background and can incorporate that into our work together, if you so choose. I look forward to possibly working together!

I will help you unravel your experiences and find ways to incorporate the lessons learned into every day life, for lasting meaningful change. After your first session with me, you can expect to feel a sense of relief and validation. Methods like CBT to reshape negative thought patterns and Emotion-Focused Therapy to explore & process feelings are often combined with mindfulness practices and creative expression techniques. We may use journaling for reflection or engage in role-playing to explore different perspectives. Tapping, known as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), voice toning and muscle testing are tools used to release emotional energetic blocks. Whether you're struggling with a specific issue or looking to make a change in your life, I am here to support you every step of the way.

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Pennington?

Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Pennington therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A Pennington therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in NJ, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 08534 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Pennington counselor?

Before seeing your Pennington therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the therapy process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, let them know if you have any concerns about therapy or feel unsure about what to talk about. They may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy in Pennington.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what therapy entails. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback and advice from a therapist. A Pennington licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find through therapy with a Pennington counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Pennington, New Jersey can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Pennington has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online therapy to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
