Starting therapy can feel like a big step. My job isn’t to judge you, tell you who you should be, or give you textbook answers. It’s to understand what’s going on, help you figure out what’s underneath it, and most importantly, help you do something with that understanding. I’ve been a clinical counselor for more than 20 years, and my approach is straightforward, practical, and action-based. Therapy should be a two-way street. We’ll talk, dig into what’s happening and why, but we’ll also work on real-life tools and strategies you can actually use when you walk out the door. Insight matters. What you do with it matters even more. Over the years, I’ve worked extensively with addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, ADHD, bipolar disorder, anger and stress, relationship and family struggles, marriage and divorce, work and career issues, spirituality, self-esteem, life transitions, and the general feeling that something in life just isn’t working anymore. I have particularly extensive experience helping people struggling with alcohol and drugs, as well as people trying to make sense of trauma, loss, and experiences that continue to affect them long after they happened. I also understand that people are complicated. What looks like anxiety may have something underneath it. Addiction may have started as a way of surviving or quieting something else. Anger, avoidance, shutting down, overthinking, people-pleasing, or constantly staying busy may have made sense somewhere along the way. I’m interested in figuring out the whole picture—not simply putting a label on what you’re experiencing. I wrote "2Bits" from my own story—the struggles, mistakes, hurt, and lessons that shaped me along the way. It’s about learning through living, sometimes the hard way, and realizing that even the difficult pieces of our lives can teach us something about who we are and where we go next. That perspective is part of what I bring to my work: I don’t just believe people can change because I’ve studied it for 20 years. I’ve seen it, lived parts of it, and spent my career helping others find their own way forward. My background goes well beyond private practice. Over the course of my career, I’ve worked in community mental health, crisis intervention and psychiatric hospitalization, alcohol and drug rehabilitation, EAP and DOT services, domestic violence and anger management programs, addiction recovery groups, group homes for troubled youth, case management, hospice care for people with AIDS, a terminally ill children’s unit, and shelters serving runaway and street youth in New York, Harlem, and California. That experience has put me across the table from people in some very difficult places in life. One thing it has reinforced for me is that there is no single type of person who struggles, and there is no single approach that works for everyone. I am nationally certified as both a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC), and I am independently licensed in Ohio. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from John Carroll University and my Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Development from Walsh University. I currently have my own telehealth counseling practice and work with clients throughout Ohio and Florida. After more than two decades doing this work, I still don’t believe in assuming I know someone because I know their diagnosis or what they’ve been through. I want to hear your story, understand how you got here, and figure out with you what needs to happen next. Your past matters, but it doesn’t get to make every decision about your future. We’ll work on understanding what’s holding you back—and then we’ll work on what you can actually do about it.

Why work with a licensed therapist near you?

This can help if your schedule is full, if travel is difficult, or if you simply prefer a more discreet setting. You can learn more about what a therapist does on the therapist role page.
Online therapy can be especially helpful for people living across Ohio, where access to in-person mental health care may vary by location.

Online therapy vs. in-person therapy in Ohio
Online therapy and in-person therapy both connect you with a licensed professional, and the main difference is how you meet. In Ohio, online therapy through BetterHelp lets you have sessions by phone, video, or in-app messaging, so you can meet from home or on a schedule that fits your life. In-person therapy takes place at an office and may involve travel and set appointment windows. Online therapy may be more accessible for people with busy schedules, limited transportation, or a preference for a more discreet setting. Both formats can support meaningful progress, so the right choice often comes down to what fits your life.
