I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I have been licensed in Kentucky since 1997. I am also licensed in Ohio. I am a Board Certified -TeleMental Health Provider. My professional experience is eclectic and wide ranging. I have worked with a diverse range of populations and issues and I have expertise in areas ranging from anxiety and depression to post traumatic stress disorder. I have worked extensively with trauma from physical and sexual abuse, family and relationship issues, parenting problems and LGBTQ issues. I have significant experience working with the military. I have done education and career counseling. My counseling style is based on unconditional positive regard, which means that I always come from a strength- based perspective. My clients will be treated with respect and genuine care, compassion and concern. We will work together to create goals and find solutions. I also consider myself to be a holistic counselor, which means I try to focus on the whole person (mind, body and spirit.) "The part can never be well unless the whole is well." - Plato. My favorite quote from Maya Angelou says "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style." MY mission is to help you find the best way to overcome and thrive in YOUR life. Together we can make that a reality.

At the start of 2022 I realized that through BetterHelp I could finally reach my goal to work private practice full - time. Through my career, I have primarily worked with adults in various settings, but in 2016 shifted my dedication to teenagers in the criminal justice system. I have Hospice experience which is where I gained my passion for grief and loss as well as dealing with phase of life changes. This hit home to me hard, in 2016 as I watched and cared for my mother who battled Ovarian Cancer. She passed away November 2019 and I took a step back from my private practice work and just focused on my healing as well as my work at the Juvenile Center. In August of 2020, I started back up with private practice and did this with BetterHelp. Once 2022 hit, I was ready to transition from working with teens in the juvenile justice system and the parents of juvenile delinquency, to taking a step with BetterHelp full time. I have experience with inpatient psychiatric care, crisis intervention, hospice, and chronic medical illness, as well as a wide range of mental health and relationship issues. I have a passion for helping people find peace of mind and strength to work on the challenges that they are facing.

Jeffrey’s focus is on a variety of life issues that impede the unique potential of the individual. These include substance abuse and dependency, Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder, anxiety, depression, and trauma as well as major life events that happen to us all. Jeffrey works with people from all walks of life including children, couples, and adults. His approach to counseling is person centered / existential and is concerned primarily with a person’s goals, aspirations, and realization of meaning. Jeffrey views life “problems” not as impediments to attaining goals but as opportunities. Person centered counseling is not a platform on which one seeks advice or fears being judged, as if “under the microscope”. Rather it is a collaborative conversation based on unconditional positive regard, in which counselor and client journey together towards the client’s realization of meaning and goals. Jeffrey has recently began using a tele-health platform to do video counseling online with clients. If you are interested in online counseling please request at Email: smartja23@gmail.com
