I enjoy these approaches because it allows me to help my clients gain insight into their core beliefs and how these translate into their thoughts and ultimately their behavior. I believe everyone has inherent strengths and abilities to face and overcome adversity and become more empowered and all they need is some assistance to realize their solution lies within themselves. Wendi Makus
Hello! I'm so glad you are here! If you are ready to make some changes in life that are likely to result in improved mental health, improved quality of life, and general well being; you came to the right place! My approach in counseling is in general to look at the person as a whole; not as their symptoms of problems. I use holistic, solution focused, and trauma informed models to engage client's in the counseling process and achieve their goals. I have been trained in trauma informed approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); which uses several tools to help client's negative past events have less emotional impact on their lives. I am also certified in a counseling approach called seed digging therapy (SD), which is developed off the therapy developed in the 90's called theophostic therapy. The premise of seed digging therapy (SD) is that each individual is generally mostly good, has a desire to be good to others, and wants to have a happy and productive life. The model states that a person's heart is a "garden" which in analogy has "weeds" and "flowers". Traumatic/Sad events tend to produce weeds and Happy events tend to produce flowers. Weeds in a persons heart can cause many negative reactions in life ranging from interpersonal relationships, self esteem, negative view of the world. Weeds occur when a lie is believed about that sad/bad event. Examples of weeds: not feeling adequate, feeling unloved, feeling a lack of importance. Flowers are developed when something happens that is positive/ good, and the individual believes something good about themselves. Examples of flowers: I do matter, I am important, I am loved, I belong in this group, family, friendship etc. The process of seed digging therapy is to find where the root of the negative thoughts started, and create an alternate belief opposite of the negative. Using narrative techniques, the person has the opportunity to recreate meaning if they want to. I am very excited to meet you, get to know you and help see you to the other side of where you want to be. If you would like to work more with me, we can talk more about your goals and what steps to take to get there.

Integrated holistic healing is not unidimensional, nor could it be. The concept of integrated healing is one which encompasses the whole. That being the mind, body and spirit of an individual. As an integrated health coach and mental health counselor, this is not simply my job, but my calling and deepest passion. Helping guide individuals who seek a deeper understanding of their inherent sense of wholeness, freedom and liveliness. As a former collegiate athlete, personal trainer, and integrated health coach, responsibility and overcoming adversity have become essential characteristics towards my way of being. These experiences matched with the teachings found at Naropa University allow me to bring forth an alternative approach to mental health counseling. I would love to hear from you. I currently have openings and am exhilarated by the opportunity to work with men, adolescents, and teenagers wanting to improve their mental health. We will work towards seeking greater clarity, fostering awareness, and shifting maladaptive behaviors and ideologies.

Peter Meilahn
I work with adults, teens, individuals, and couples who want practical tools for creating lasting change. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, ADHD, depression, trauma, sleep difficulties, relationship stress, autism, chronic pain, or simply feeling stuck, my goal is to help you improve emotional balance, attention, communication, and overall quality of life. My approach is collaborative, educational, and practical. Together we'll explore what's happening now, understand the patterns that may be contributing to it, and develop skills you can continue using long after therapy ends. I enjoy helping people discover not only insight, but also concrete strategies they can apply in everyday life. For individuals, I often integrate mindfulness, neuroscience, and optional brain-based tools, including biofeedback, to help strengthen attention, emotional regulation, and resilience. These approaches can complement counseling by giving you opportunities to practice self-regulation both during and between sessions. Many clients report improvements in stress, attention, or sleep as they consistently practice these skills, and the benefits often build over time as the techniques become more natural. For couples, our work usually begins with improving communication and the overall quality of the relationship. I frequently draw from the Gottman Method, an evidence-based approach that focuses on strengthening friendship, trust, emotional connection, conflict management, and reducing destructive interaction patterns such as contempt. My goal is to help couples better understand one another, communicate more effectively, and build a healthier relationship together. Before becoming a counselor, I completed my undergraduate studies in Communication, which gave me an early appreciation for how people connect, misunderstand one another, and build healthy relationships. During graduate school and afterward, I received training and supervision in couples therapy from a former President of the Minnesota Board of Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as another member of the Board. My primary supervisor was also a founding board member of the Center for Sexual Health and Healing at the University of Minnesota. Over time, he trusted me with referrals, allowing me to continue developing my work with couples while also maintaining a long-standing practice with individual clients. I have more than 16 years of clinical experience and have taught attention and self-regulation skills through organizations including the University of Minnesota Medical Center, the Minnesota Council for the Gifted and Talented, and the Learning Disabilities Association of Minnesota. I also developed a biofeedback training program that was used within a large Minnesota health system. I frequently work with people experiencing: * ADHD and attention challenges * Anxiety and panic * Depression * Trauma and chronic stress * Autism spectrum conditions * Sleep difficulties * Chronic health and pain conditions * Relationship and communication concerns * Veterans and people working in high-stress professions I also enjoy working with professionals, entrepreneurs, students, healthcare providers, and creative individuals who feel capable but struggle with inconsistent focus, stress, or anxiety. Together we can identify the patterns that are getting in the way and build practical strategies that fit your daily life. My counseling style is practical, supportive, and collaborative. Depending on your goals, sessions may focus on open conversation, structured exercises, mindfulness, CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), somatic approaches, or neuroscience-informed strategies. When appropriate, I may also recommend educational resources or optional assessments to help us better understand your attention, stress, communication, or personality patterns. Many clients appreciate having both meaningful conversations and practical tools they can use between sessions. My goal is not simply to help you feel better while we're talking, but to help you build skills that improve your daily life, strengthen your relationships, and continue serving you long after therapy has ended. If that sounds like the kind of approach you're looking for, I'd be happy to work with you.
