Hello and thank you for being here and reading about me. I reside in Costa Rica and I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in the States of California and Oregon with over 35 years of experience in a wide variety of settings, working with differing populations and ages. I have helped others who are looking to start or maintain their healing journey or are experiencing obstacles such as depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, addictions and trauma (including multi-generational trauma). My clinical focus is on individual adult men and women from various ethnic backgrounds. It has become abundantly clear to me (especially since working within a global Telehealth format) that regardless of where we come from or our individual life story, we all share the common needs for purpose, meaning, and value in our lives. Those who have worked with me on BetterHelp know that I pay close attention to words, love metaphors, and use humor when it is appropriate to do so. My style is warm and actively engaging and my approach pulls from various sources including solution-focused, dialectical behavior, narrative, and experiential therapies. I can't believe it has been over 6 years since I joined BH. I have developed a model "in honor" of this milestone. I hope it brings clarity to you as to how I may approach your situation. Hello! Allow me to introduce myself! My name is Jaye and I am glad to have the opportunity to serve you. They say, “Do what you love and never work a day in your life”, well, I don’t know who “they” are, but they are right! I knew I wanted to be a therapist after finding a book about Freud when I was 10 years old. I was a voracious reader and I was captivated! Yeah, I know I was a nutty little kid, but I held fast to my dream. When I was 18, my life took a different path and I became a hairstylist instead, as I had a young son to support. I loved that work – the fast pace, the creativity, the mixing of chemicals in the backroom… it was FUN! The best part though, was learning about my clients through their stories and becoming a trusted part of their lives. People tell their hairdressers everything, right? What better training ground! I worked as a hairdresser off and on for 18 years and spent the rest of the time raising 3 beautiful children. When my children were a bit older, I decided I wanted to go back to school and fulfill my dream of being a therapist. I went back to school in 2003 and then started working in mental health in 2005. At first I helped co-running groups with children and then working with men diagnosed with schizophrenia within a small locked facility. While working there, I finished my undergrad in psychology in 2005 and started grad school in 2006. In 2008, I was hired by the Washington Department of Corrections and moved into forensic mental health. I have worked in forensic mental health, at a variety of facilities in the Pacific NW, for 13 years. In 2017, I worked at a couple ‘community health’ facilities and even spent some time working at the Multnomah County Jail. Its all been a wonderful, wild ride but I am ready now for new challenges, and thusly, I have decided to leave forensics behind and move into private practice. I love working with individuals and couples! I have years of experience with 'people of color' (is that a politically correct, relevant phrase anymore? I don't know... :) ) and years of experience with just about every mental health concern imaginable. I have many “specialties”, as in mental health topics that I like to help with, but my top specialties are anxiety/depression; identity issues; LGBTQ issues, intimacy issues and couples’ issues (intimacy, sex, divorce). My counselor ‘style’ is client-centered and solution-centered based in Mindfulness. I utilize various exercises/skills teaching and journaling as my modality of change with my clients. We will always work in collaboration together… Your therapy is all about YOU! I have practiced as a therapist for the last 15 years utilizing client-centered, solution-centered, strength-based style combined with empathy, validation and compassion to form a strong therapeutic relationship. I view my therapeutic role as one "with the heart of a teacher" in which I spend time finding out what the client desires in their life and then teach the client ways to create and attain their own vision of success through holistic, collaborative effort. My specialty is working from a trauma informed standpoint teaching Mindfulness for symptom management and distress tolerance. Starting where the client is on their therapeutic journey the learning/practice of Mindfulness allows for the exploration of belief systems and offers the client consistent safety and support needed for them to shift beliefs and try new behaviors. I am a proud member of the LGBTQ community! In my personal life I love spending time playing with my dog, growing mushrooms, writing group materials and having many outdoors adventures with my wife such as kayaking (she paddleboards, I am the kayak!), hiking, camping and foraging in the forest. We also love to do art projects and cook together. I look forward to hearing your story and helping you meet your goals in life… I can promise your hard work will be worth it!

I became motivated to pursue a career in psychotherapy through my lived experience as a trauma survivor and a recovering addict. My specialties include treating depression, anxiety, relationship issues, chemical dependency, process addictions, and trauma-related disorders. I am fortunate to have had a rewarding and successful career in the mental health field which includes working for 18 years as a fully licensed therapist, providing over 10,000 hours of individual and group psychotherapy, running my own professional training company, and doing research into psychosocial rehabilitation models. My approach to psychotherapy is very client-centered and while I am eager to learn and apply a wide variety of treatment modalities I believe this work is highly individualized. I enjoy working with a diverse client base and my priorities are to build strong relationships and work with clients to apply their individual strengths towards whatever life challenges they are seeking to overcome.

I'm a therapist that focuses on techniques and strategies that work, and I see progress with my clients pretty quickly. I'm licensed in Oklahoma with 14 years of experience as a therapist and over 17 years of experience in mental health. I have experience in helping clients with executive functioning (ADHD and autism), stress and anxiety, queer/lgbtq+ issues, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID/multiple personalities), & coping with life changes. I use many therapeutic models or perspectives, primarily focusing on how systemic and institutional barriers affect mental, emotional, and behavioral health and well-being. I'm queer-friendly. I strongly believe anyone and everyone can benefit from therapy. I do not use or believe in the "medical model" of mental health, so I do not attempt to "cure" "mental illness", but recognize that mental health is complicated and "mental illness" is mostly a survival response.

Find a therapist near you in Midland, Oregon

Finding a therapist near you in Midland, Oregon starts with matching to a licensed professional who fits your needs, schedule, and goals. Oregon is home to people with diverse mental health needs across urban, suburban, and rural communities, which can make it challenging to find care. BetterHelp connects you with a licensed therapist through tailored matching, so you can begin care from home or wherever works for you.

The network includes over 30,000 licensed therapists globally, and over 4 million people have used BetterHelp to find support through online therapy. During matching, 93% of user preferences are met, which helps you connect with a therapist suited to what you are looking for. Whether you are searching for help with anxiety, trauma, affordable or insurance covered therapy, weekend or flexible scheduling, or virtual sessions, you can find a therapist and get started when you are ready.

Why work with a licensed therapist near you?

Working with a licensed therapist near you gives you access to professional mental health support from someone trained to help you understand and manage what you are going through. A licensed therapist can offer evidence-based approaches, a steady space to talk, and guidance tailored to your situation. In Oregon, online therapy can make that care more accessible, since sessions happen from home or wherever you are, without the need to travel to an office. This can help if your schedule is full, if travel is difficult, or if you simply prefer a more discreet setting. You can learn more about what a therapist does on the therapist role page.

Online therapy can be especially helpful for people living across Oregon, where access to in-person mental health care may vary by location.

What concerns can therapists help with?

Therapists can help with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety and stress, depression, trauma and PTSD, self-esteem and identity, people-pleasing and fear of rejection, insomnia and racing thoughts, workplace stress and burnout, substance use, parenting and co-parenting stress, grief and loss, and relationship and family challenges. Therapists on BetterHelp may draw on approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), depending on your needs and goals. You can explore support for specific concerns on pages such as generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and eating disorders.

Please note that therapists on BetterHelp do not provide psychiatric medication management or formal diagnoses.

Online therapy vs. in-person therapy in Oregon

Online therapy and in-person therapy both connect you with a licensed professional, and the main difference is how you meet. In Oregon, online therapy through BetterHelp lets you have sessions by phone, video, or in-app messaging, so you can meet from home or on a schedule that fits your life. In-person therapy takes place at an office and may involve travel and set appointment windows. Online therapy may be more accessible for people with busy schedules, limited transportation, or a preference for a more discreet setting. Both formats can support meaningful progress, so the right choice often comes down to what fits your life.

Finding a therapist that accepts insurance in Oregon
