I’ve spent my life confined to a wheelchair, so I believe I have a unique understanding of just how challenging life can be and the strength it takes to ask for help. Whatever your struggles, I believe the first step to helping you overcome them is to build a connection with you based on commonly shared thoughts, feelings, and actions impacting how we feel, how we relate to others, and how we achieve our goals. Once you and I have identified any unhelpful thoughts, feelings, and actions standing in your way, we will work together on a plan to help you succeed by giving you the skills, confidence, and belief that your emotional well-being doesn’t depend on others or events you can’t control. While pursuing my Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of West Florida and licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), I have gained 12 + years of clinical experience helping adults, teens, children, and families heal from a variety of emotional wounds to include: PTSD, grief and loss, intimate partner violence, physical, sexual, emotional abuse, and neglect. I have worked with veterans, people dealing with substance dependence, homelessness, and chronic health problems. In sum, my approach is not to make you relive the past, but to help you recognize--and ultimately, change--the core hurtful beliefs and actions fueling your current anxiety, depression, anger, low self-esteem and relationship conflicts. I am ready to listen when you share, sit in silence when you need it, and best of all, cheer on your successes!

Amberlyn Keller
My name is Amberlyn Keller, M.A., M. Edu., LPC. My education background includes: I have a bachelor’s of science degree in psychology from York College in Nebraska, a master’s of arts degree in Applied Research Psychology from The University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas, a second master’s of art degree in School Counseling from University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas and I completed my License Professional Counselor (LPC) classes through Lamar University through online education. I have 13 years teaching/coaching experience at all levels of education including special education as well as teaching experience at the college level teaching psychology courses online for five years for Midland College from 2005-2010 as a part-time adjunct teacher. As a former coach, I know how important mindfulness and mental skills can play a role in the success of an athlete. I have been counseling since 2015 when I started to complete practicum and internship hours for certification in school counseling followed by hours needed for LPC, respectively. I am fully licensed in the state of Texas as a LPC and have experience working in private practice as well as in a behavioral psychiatric hospital. I like to focus on client centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and have a realist approach to counseling. I also believe working through grief and trauma is important in moving forward in life. Mindfulness and yoga practices along with the use of essential oils can help with this. I believe each meeting with a client is a conversation that serves a purpose where the client can talk things out, think things through and grow. I love to work with children, adolescents and adults, and enjoy incorporating physical activity, yoga, deep breathing and mindfulness meditation into counseling sessions as necessary and at the comfort level of the client/subscriber. I am also able to work with people who have experienced a traumatic brain injury as well as other medical conditions due to my own experience with surviving a stroke in 2020. I am also willing and able to counsel individuals dealing with the loss of a beloved pet or impending loss. Within each of these specific situations there can be grief, loss, depression, guilt, shame and lots of other emotions that need to be processed to work through those things and to be able to move forward and manage life as it changed. One other area of common practice for me to counsel on is job loss or career management. I look forward to working with others and hope to provide a service of counseling that can make a person feel better. hopeful, or at least gain some perspective each time there is a visit and for them to be able to apply the new perspective to their daily life situations.

I am an empowerment specialist (Therapist) who assists clients in finding their own answers. I understand that most issues that people seek help for, at its core, is devalue. When we are devalued we become very angry and hurt. Therapy is primarily an educational experience in which the client is given new information. The client is able to see how influences from early experiences shape us into the person we have become. Some of those influences are helpful but others are not. In the therapy process we must identify the "schemas" or tendencies that we learned from the elders in our families that have not served us well. Therapy is a journey not a destination. Therapy places a person on a journey of self discovery, open mindedness, and self love. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 20 years. I hold a masters degree in Clinical Psychology, now known as Forensic Psychology. I seek to empower my clients and give them their "microphone", their voice back. I seek to assist clients to claim or reclaim their identity and give them permission to claim the original Identity given to them by the creator. A quality life requires tough decisions and courage. Asking for help takes courage. Open up and begin your journey.....the world is waiting on you!

I would look forward to working with you with what you have been experiencing and creating a comfortable, safe space and for building deeper understanding and coping strategies that can help. I can accept clients who are able to fit into my Tues/Thurs morning schedule at this time from about 9:15-11:30 am, varies by the week or I will try to find a daytime appt that could work within my Tues/Thurs availability. Clients on the mostly messaging plan with 1 session per month would be a good fit with me, but I will have more Tu/Th morning/day availability by mid-August. We would be able to use the messaging often for therapeutic feedback, coping and communication strategies, worksheets, suggestions and to gain perspective. I will typically be able to respond to your message by the end of the day or within 24 hrs. I only offer individual counseling and not couples or family counseling. I am licensed in Texas with 12 years of professional work experience. I am easy to talk to and a great listener. Whether I am counseling or in my personal life, people naturally feel comfortable opening up with me. I believe in counseling to help you build on and recognize your strengths. The more you open yourself up to counseling, the more you will benefit. My clients often ask me if I have ever heard of anyone else having similar feelings and difficulties that they are experiencing and I reassure them that they are not alone. Together, we will create and enhance ways of coping that will work for you.
