Hello! My name is Kelcey Roberts. I’m a licensed counselor in the states of South Dakota and Nebraska. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, sexuality and gender identity. I have specialized in trauma, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, and witnessing violence. I work closely with teens and adults in order to help them identify their own goals. I would love to work closely with you and walk with you on the journey of achieving these goals. I envision counseling as a relationship between two people in which I can provide help in whatever way you need it. I have been in the counseling field for over 10 years and I am able to use that experience to help you in the best way possible. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and person centered techniques in order to help you set goals and reach these goals in counseling. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Every single person on this planet experiences struggles and I am here to help in any way, whether it be messaging, phone calls or video meetings. I look forward to getting to know you!

I don’t see myself as a “therapist.” I see myself as support. Someone you can talk to. I want to help you find purpose and happiness in your life. You are struggling. I know you are. I want to help you find balance and be successful in your future. I have a strong desire to help people through therapy and education. I want to teach you the skills you need to help yourself. I have experience working with all different types of symptoms. I like to get to know people. I like when people get their “ah-ha” moment—when they light up and figure it out. You will do the work, and I will get to be there for it. That’s why I do what I do. I have experience in many different areas of clinical work. I volunteered in a hospice clinic for about one year. I was able to sit next to people in their final moments. Working with those families was the most rewarding experience because I got to be there with the people they love when they couldn’t. Working people who impacted by death and dying is my truest passion. I have almost two years’ experience working at an addiction center/homeless center working with individuals and running groups. This is not my passion, but I met several colleagues, and I learned a ton about myself as a therapist and as a person here. I worked at a therapy agency for three years. I worked with families, survivors of abuse, and children. I used trauma-focused processed to help my clients manage symptoms and develop healthy coping skills to thrive. I decided to leave this agency because it also wasn’t my passion. Additionally, I wanted to be home more to be with my family. My therapy approach is non-judgmental, kind, gentle, and goal driven. I can help you help you see both sides of any situation and find the answers you already have inside of you, by listening and helping you to be rational. I will help you keep moving and growing in your life. I can help you acknowledge good and bad feelings and validate them. I will also teach you to accept them as feelings and not fact. Together, we can sort this out.

I am licensed in Nebraska with 13 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients of all ages with stress and anxiety, trauma and abuse, parenting issues, & depression. I also have experience with clients ages 4-18 years of age who struggle with severe behavior issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, and challenges of life. I have worked with the parents/caregivers of varying ages with parenting concerns, life struggles, and trauma. I have been described as patient, compassionate, and caring. I am straightforward, often clients have said our sessions are more like a conversation. I have an undergraduate degree in elementary education, and I say I like to sneak into therapy. Also, I must be a detective at times, and in conversation, I will often learn things I may not have otherwise because clients feel it is irrelevant. I can see patterns of behavior or possible triggers. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. My mission is to see clients be successful in achieving their goals not only in therapy but in life. I always say, “I am here to guide you, and you do all the hard work.” When goals are created, I make sure it is realistic, achievable, and short to start with, long-term goals will come when and if the client wishes to create them. I may push a bit but never outside of your comfort zone. I feel it is important, to be honest in therapy, to help keep clients in a comfortable and safe environment. If I recommend something and the client is not comfortable or knows they will not do it, being honest about it saves time and a different recommendation can be made. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started!
