You have come to this website because you are seeking a way to answer some questions or resolve some kind of dilemma. My role is as a kind of "coach" to help you discover the strengths and skills you already have and to develop new ones that will help you find the answers to your questions or the resolution of your dilemma. My name is (Ms.) Toby F. Mailman. I am a New York State licensed Clinical Social Worker. I completed my degree at New York University and have been in practice with individual adults since 2001. I have worked with a diversity of clients, including diverse ethnicities, cultures, and sexual orientations. I have experience taking into consideration the norms of different cultures and the role they may play in psychotherapy. My approach to psychotherapy is to establish a relationship with a client in order to foster trust, as I believe that trust is one of the most important factors for therapy to be helpful to the client. I use different kinds of modalities, depending on what I believe would be most effective for the client. Sometimes different kinds of modalities may be useful for the same person. The modalities that I have been using include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Body Work, Mindfulness and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. I believe that therapy is most effective when there are regularly scheduled weekly or bi-weekly sessions. Out of respect for each other, I would advise anyone as far in advance as possible if I need to reschedule an appointment and would fully expect that the subscriber who is seeking services with me would do the same. It is always best practice to consult with me before scheduling a different appointment, since some times may already be taken by a regular weekly client, even if they look "open" on schedules that are weeks ahead. The issues I have worked on with clients include, but are not limited to: Depression Anxiety Trauma Adjustment issues Grief and mourning Immigration issues Sleep issues I hope I have an opportunity to help you improve and enrich your life, and I congratulate you on having the courage to take this step.

Do you find yourself consumed by anxiety and worry, no matter what you do? Does your depression make you feel stuck, unfulfilled, and unhappy? Maybe you are tired of the overthinking or the plate being too full. Maybe you are fed up with being alone or unmotivated. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to feel calm, in control, and relaxed. You’re ready to feel happy, motivated, and at peace . Most of all, you’re ready to love yourself again and to find a new “normal,” and I can help you get there. Clients come to me looking for someone who “gets” what happened to them on a deeper level, because therapy should be a place where you feel safe & validated. Sessions are about more than just talking; we incorporate both your mind & body, so you can experience wholeness again. And we always go at your pace, never pushing to places you don’t feel ready to be. As an experienced anxiety and depression therapist, I believe that everyone has a right to feel in control, at peace, and happy. You don’t have to let the anxiety or depression control you anymore and you definitely don’t have to do it alone. I can’t wait to work with you.

25 years of experience as a mental health therapist

Hello. I am a person that has always enjoyed helping people as far back as when I was a child. I grew up in a family that taught me values of believing in God; working hard; respecting one another; and extending loving kindness and a helping hand to others. It seemed only natural that I went to school and became a counselor. I have 25 years work experience with people struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, alcohol and substance abuse, addictions, codependency, obsessive compulsive disorder, finding purpose to one's life, spirituality, grief and loss, stress management, work place issues, self-esteem, and ways to improve communication. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NY; a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor in NY; and an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I use an eclectic approach to counseling individuals because what works for one person may not work for another person. I am trained and skilled in several therapies as shown below in further detail. My clients have complimented me on my compassion, understanding, patience, intelligence, ability to relate, and to improve their lives by helping them reach their own goals. I believe I can help you also! I look forward to hearing from you.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a West Hampton Dunes counselor?

Before seeing your West Hampton Dunes therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the therapy process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, let them know if you have any concerns about therapy or feel unsure about what to talk about. They may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy in West Hampton Dunes.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what therapy entails. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback and advice from a therapist. A West Hampton Dunes licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find through therapy with a West Hampton Dunes counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in West Hampton Dunes, New York can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

West Hampton Dunes has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online therapy to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
