Laronne James
Hi there! My name is Laronne (la-Ron) and I have been involved in several aspects of the mental health field for fifteen years. I am a Texan and currently work in a suburb of Dallas. I have a partner of 17 years and a 33 year old son. I began my journey as a criminal justice addictions professional and worked with a variety of clients to include those with intellectual disabilities who had been charged with a variety of crimes as well as federal parolees who are having issues with substance abuse. I also facilitated a group for high school kids who had tested positive for (mostly) marijuana during random testing. I worked with people with autism and intellectual disabilities from 2004 through 2017 working closely with psychiatrists and performed as a team leader. While working on obtaining my license I worked in a psychiatric hospital in the intensive outpatient program during my internship. After obtaining my license I sought employment with a social service agency so that I could work with a wide variety of people with a wide range of concerns. I enjoy working with different cultures and subcultures and most often work with people with substance abuse, depression, anxiety, past trauma and those dealing through life changes such as grief, disability, and retirement, forced or otherwise. Although an existentialist at heart, my therapeutic approach is primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I feel this approach works very well for a myriad of issues and is relatively short term and is an action therapy which provides working tools and is client driven.

Hello, and thanks for visiting my profile! My top specialties as a clinician include PTSD and Trauma, Addiction (both chemical and behavioral), along with Depression and other mood disorders. My therapeutic approaches involve pulling from many counseling techniques to find an approach that best fits the individual client. Some of those techniques include Cognitive Behavioral, Person Centered, Reality, and Narrative type therapies. I use an informed consent model, as knowledge equals empowerment. A little about me - Counseling was something I had always wanted to do, but I didn't pursue it until later in life. Years ago, I lost a spouse to suicide, and the grief was consuming. Once I was able to see more clearly, I enrolled in a Master of Counseling program in hopes of being able to ease the grief of others in similar situations. I did get my degree and My LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) license, and also accumulated significant life experience which, in short, has helped me become the therapist I want to be. For example, I am a recovering addict, going on fourteen years' clean time, and am active in twelve step recovery. Also, I am a proud member of the LGBTQIA community. Before making my decision to become a remote-based therapist, I accumulated significant on-site work experience. Some of that includes working with domestic violence survivors, addiction (men's and women's, both out patient and residential), plus children's residential, and crisis stabilization. I look forward to working with you!

I accept some appointments via the BetterHelp calendar but BetterHelp sessions are limited to 45 minutes which essentially is 40 minutes of therapy. This is a limiting factor of the site; I am not paid for engaging with clients for longer than 45 minutes so it is important to come to these sessions prepared as our time here is somewhat limited. You do not have to go through this journey of life alone. Allow me to meet you where you are at and help be your guide in this amazing journey called life. I spent my first fourteen years of clinical social work working with children and families in a residential care setting. I have experience in treating trauma and attachment wounds. I believe that a person’s intrauterine experience and history of adverse events and/or stressors can shape one's life – creating unwanted physical sensations, emotions, depression, anxiety, and trouble building and sustaining healthy relationships with others. I am trained in EMDR therapy and use EMDR as a tool to aid in decreasing stressful feelings and experiences. I have specialized training and experience to facilitate EMDR with children and teens and am equipped to help children process trauma in a way they can understand, even when they don’t have the cognitive ability to explain their experience. I enjoy working with all ages and have experience with family counseling. I have years of training in Dr. Perry's NMT as well as TBRI. In addition, I have experience working with adults, first responders, and couples. I treat issues related to, but not limited to, attachment and adoption, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, self esteem, and abuse. I believe we were all made to live in community and connection and am excited to work with you.
