I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NY, and a LPC-MHSP in Tennessee. I graduated in May 2018 from William James College with my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a concentration in Forensic and Correctional Counseling. I have worked in the areas of mental health and substance use for the past 6 years in a combination of community residential, outpatient, and inpatient settings in the community as well as in correctional settings. I have worked with clients who have a wide range of diagnoses including anxiety, depression, bipolar and other mood disorders, ADHD, PTSD, substance use disorders, and personality disorders. I have a lot of experience helping clients with transitions including starting sobriety, reentry from incarceration, relationship changes, loss and many various other major life changes that can lead to anxiety/depression. I would describe my approach as warm, empathetic, person centered, and solution focused. I will work with you to help you reach your goals and make positive changes in your life. I use an eclectic approach, pulling techniques from many theories including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I look forward to working with you!

Hi, I'm Emily and I am so glad that you took the biggest leap in the counseling process by recognizing that you need support and reaching out for help. While therapy can be a scary process, it also can be one of the most freeing and rewarding experiences of your life, giving you the ability to be the person you always dreamed of becoming. My background in mental health counseling started at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. In May 2011, I graduated with a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling. Following graduation, I began working as a primary therapist in an outpatient mental health clinic. In 2014 I officially became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of New York. While working in an outpatient setting, I worked with men, women and teenagers suffering from a variety of mental health illness including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. After a year of working there, I was asked to conduct a group for individuals suffering from co-occuring disorders. Since then, a great deal of my focus has been on treating individuals who suffer from both mental health and substance use disorders. In February 2015, I joined the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) and accepted a position providing mental health and substance abuse treatment services to incarcerated individuals. After almost six years of working with this population, I have gained a great understanding of the role that trauma and abuse plays in a person’s life, specifically surrounding issues of abandonment, trust, guilt and shame, family dynamics and parenting. My philosophy on therapy is pretty simple. Whether my patients are in society or behind bars, I always tell those I’m working with that as a therapist I'm not in the business of telling you what to do or how you should do it. It my belief that every human has the answers that they seek deep within themselves. My job is simply to give you a safe space to help you navigate and uncover the solutions to problems or answers to questions that you subconsciously already have the answers to. After all, nobody knows you better than you! Together, we will process the areas that you need support in as well identify strengths and appropriate coping skills to build up your ability to deal with life on life’s terms instead of resorting to old, negative coping skills that no longer serve a purpose in your life. While this can be an overwhelming process with feelings of extreme vulnerability, it is only during those times of feeling uncomfortable where true growth is able to take place. I am looking forward to joining you on your new journey of self-discovery!

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US with most therapists is $100 to $200 per hour. These prices may be higher in Macedon due to a higher cost of living, and a limited number of therapists taking new clients. The price also depends on the type of provider you are looking for. See the following average prices for various mental health providers without insurance:

  • With a psychiatrist: $150-$500
  • With therapists: $100-300

Is BetterHelp right for me?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of therapy in Macedon is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in NY, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 14502 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site where you can schedule a session based on your and the therapist's schedule. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists around or in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

Should I find a Macedon therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Macedon licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.
