I am a professional counselor, licensed in Oregon, with over 15 years of experience. I have worked as both a residential substance abuse treatment counselor and as a outpatient mental health counselor with an employee and family assistance program. I have worked with clients with a broad range of issues including substance abuse, depression, anxiety, relationship concerns and sexuality. I have also worked with first responders who have experienced trauma. My counseling style is warm and supportive, with a little bit of humor thrown into the mix. All clients will be treated with respect and compassion, regardless of where they are on their life's journey. I strongly believe that the client is the only expert of his/her/their life and it is my job to help each one reach their full potential. We enter counseling to change something in our lives; whatever we are currently doing isn't working. But we must change how we think in order for our new behaviors to have lasting change. To this end, my approach combines cognitive-behavioral, rational-emotive, and client-centered counseling. Just as each client is unique, each treatment plan must be as well. We will work together to create a plan that meets your specific needs. I look forward to our first session!

Thank you very much for checking here: I hope to be of service to you. My 17+ years of experience includes many years of counseling and listening, across various cultures, ages and personal client needs, with a few years as adjunct professor at Louisiana State University, Shreveport, LA: 3 years of work as a patient counselor in a hospital psychiatric unit, and 3 years of practice in a pediatric clinic. My current solo practice is empathetic, accepting and non-judgmental, having also practiced as an EAP (employee counselor) in a very large hospital and city system, in which I was required to see anyone for any situation or issue they may bring to counseling. This unique opportunity provided me with insights and understanding of people beyond my own personal scope of experience. I believe this has made me more sensitive to the needs, hurts and stress of the various clients I serve. I am generally available 6 days a week for appointments, because I really do enjoy my practice and my clients. I am licensed in Louisiana, Oregon and Florida and serve clients in those states, as well as in overseas countries. I am old enough to enjoy my 6 children, 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchild, together with my wife in a delightful sharing relationship. This creates a relaxed, accepting and strong relationship and family foundation for your counseling needs. My personal strengths hopefully convey to you a caring and positive mindset as we work together. My hobbies are sailing, backpacking, snow skiing and cooking (especially apple pies:) (p.s. In fairness to potential Oregon clients, I want to let you know that I am in the Eastern Time Zone, and regretfully, I can only be available to West Coast clients from 6:00/ am until 1:00 pm :( If this is not workable hours for you, you may wish to find another therapist who may have better hours for your schedule. I felt it was only fair to let you know this in advance.) Also..I can open more hours than what shows on the schedule, so if you need a day/time that is not shown, please message me. Hope to hear from you soon!

Everyone needs assistance and guidance from time to time. I have spent the majority of my career in mental health working with the homeless population, youth and individuals with severe mental health concerns. I have helped individuals to navigate a variety of issues. I am comfortable working with individuals who are on the Autism Spectrum, and the LGBTQIA+ population. I believe people should be allowed to grow and progress from whatever type of issues they are struggling with while being treating with compassion, respect and care. Each client should leave a session with tools they can implement in their own lives, even if that is just the release of being able to talk about their troubles or concerns. I approach therapy with a variety of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Sometimes our emotions just become too much for us to deal with on our own. I believe my sessions are compassionate, yet challenging enough to help you grow. My experience is not only academic but personal as well. I hope that you will benefit from speaking with me, and I can help you enrich your life, work toward your goals, and reach your full potential.

I believe in treating everyone with respect and the "Golden Rule" is essential to me - treat others the way you want to be treated. My approach to counseling is client-centered and solution-focused with a cognitive-behavioral foundation. I try to help identify patterns of thought that may be keeping you from your goals and we will work together to develop a plan to address those thoughts. I focus on relationships, anxiety, emotional regulation, and stress management, offering a safe, judgment-free space to heal and grow. For clients who want it, I also integrate a faith-based approach. I help adults and teens improve focus, calm, and emotional balance—especially for ADHD, anxiety, depression, sleep issues, trauma, autism, chronic stress, and pain-related self-regulation. My approach combines personalized counseling with mindfulness and optional brain-based tools (biofeedback) that help you train attention and calm in real time—during and between sessions. We can work on immediate concerns, long-term goals, or deeper patterns. Many clients notice changes in the first week for sleep, stress, and attention, and the skills build over time. It’s similar to learning a skill like riding a bike—the changes become more natural and lasting. The tools we use support improvement not just in sessions, but while working, studying, or relaxing in daily life. You also keep these tools long-term so you can continue building focus and balance independently. I often work with people who want to become more self-directed and consistent—including professionals, entrepreneurs, and creative individuals who feel stuck between high ability and inconsistent focus or anxiety. We can: talk through your situation in a collaborative way, or use structured tools and a brain-based assessment to understand how your attention, stress, and energy patterns work—and improve them Background and experience: I have over 16 years of experience and have taught attention and regulation tools at: University of Minnesota Medical Center Minnesota Council for the Gifted and Talented Learning Disabilities Association of Minnesota I also developed a biofeedback training program used within a large Minnesota health system. I have worked extensively with: ADHD and attention challenges anxiety and panic trauma autism spectrum conditions chronic health and pain conditions veterans and high-stress professions Approach My style is practical, structured, and supportive. I draw from evidence-based approaches including CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and somatic strategies, while helping you build: better focus and mental clarity emotional regulation improved sleep more consistent performance at work or school stronger self-direction and follow-through The goal is not just insight—but real-world change you can feel during your day What to expect: Clients often choose this approach if they want: tools they can use between sessions a clearer understanding of how their brain responds to stress and focus a balance of conversation and structured strategies
